Jammu, March 01(Scoop News) – India’s premier News agency Press Trust of India (PTI) has selected four students from the Department Of Media Education Research centre (MERC) University of Kashmir.
After an on the spot written test, followed by interviews, conducted by PTI , 4 MERC students Owais Mushtaq Wani, Azhar Qadri , Ummer Rashid and Mehmooda Bashir were selected as Journalists to work for PTI .
Dr Shahid Rasool, Head MERC in a statement said that during two week media tour organized by the Department Of Media Education Research centre (MERC) University of Kashmir,media organizations at New Delhi not only enhanced the mental landscape of the students but also were a boon for the teaching faculty, accompanying the students, to better understand the latest media trends in the country. During the sessions conducted at various media organizations, students got enriched with latest techniques and came to know about the new media beats created by the sheer wisdom of the minds behind these organizations. The tour also provided opportunity to students to develop contacts with media professionals and organizations, which may help in their placement, added Dr Shahid.
Statement said that it was because of the appreciation of our talent and the opportunity provided by M. K. Razdan, Editor-in-Chief and CEO PTI, that four of our students were offered jobs by PTI . Razdan, was so impressed by the talent, we are producing at MERC, that he offered to start campus placement for MERC students from this year on regular basis, added Dr Shahid . He thanked Director CEC T.R.Kem for providing free accommodation to MERC students at CEC guest. Head MERC also thanked Prof. Riyaz Punjabi,VC KU and the Registrar for encouraging and facilitating the tours. Expressing happiness one of the students said. "it was a treat interacting with media giants like Rajdeep Sardesai at CNN-IBN, Shazizaman from Visual Media, M.K. Razdan at PTI, Ashok Ogra at APJ and Unni Rajen Shanker and many media luminaries from the print and electronic media".
During the tour students visited prominent media houses like Aay Pee Jay Institute of Media Studies, Dwarka, New Delhi, NewsX, Noida , Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC), IGNOU. Maidan Garhi, New Delhi , OUTLOOK, Newsmagazine , Jawaharlal Nehru University, Press Trust of India (PTI), Parliament Street, New Delhi, Indian Express, Star News, Noida , Hndustan Times, , CNN-IBN, Noida , TV Today Network 18 (Aaj tak and Headlines Today), NDTV and Hindu
The group, which visited thirteen organizations during their 10 day stay in Delhi, included 13 students and 2 faculty members, Dr. Aaliya Ahmad, Ms. Zahra Malik, along with section officer G.M.Mir
Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Riyaz Punjabi expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the tour and said that students got a feel of work culture at various media organizations and benefited from the experience of leading media persons . The students got a feel of the media industry in the country, understood the new trends and technologies in media and discussed various issues concerning the media industry today, added VC.
Students during the tour met and interacted with media personalities like Ashok Ogra , Sunil K. Das, Vinod Mehta, Ajith Pillai, Saikat Datta, M.K Razdan, Vijay S. Satokar, Unni Rajen Shanker, Shazizaman, Vinay Tiwari, Rajdeep Sardesai , Ms. Nidhi Razdan, Indrajit Hazra, and Ms. Shailja Bajpai.sn
The ten day media tour, organized by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Kashmir University for the students of IVth Semester, was first of its kind. Earlier the students were sent out side the state for video production course at some media centre in the country; that is now being done in a much better way after 2nd semester at EMC, Kashmir University Srinagar and the students are sent out for a media tour after the 4th semester. The students have appreciated the efforts of the University for Sucessful Completion of the media tour.sn
