Jammu, December 27, (Scoop News)- Expressing deep concern over Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand’s statement that the Congress considers the 1975 Indira-Sheikh Accord as the ultimate solution to the so-called Kashmir issue, Political Advisor to State BJP President Prof Hari Om Friday rejected out-of-hand his formulation saying the Accord was communally-motivated and was imposed on the State against the will of an overwhelming majority of the state population.
“The 1975 Accord accorded legitimacy to the politics of autonomy. It strengthened separatist tendencies in Kashmir. It was not based on the will of the people of the state. It was a brazen attempt on the part of the Congress to pander to the communal forces and votaries of plebiscite in Kashmir overlooking its dangerous ramifications. It was an attempt of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to enable Kashmir to further perpetuate the domination of votaries of greater autonomy in Kashmir on state polity and jeopardize the political and economic interests of the already suffering people of Jammu province and Ladakh region.
The Accord was signed with those in Kashmir who had repeatedly challenged the state’s accession with India and worked for the Kashmir’s separation so that they could establish a Switzerland-type independent Kashmir. The Accord had permitted Sheikh Abdullah to review certain Central laws and withdraw those he considered harmful for the so-called special status of J&K. Sheikh Abdullah did not represent the general will; he only represented a microscopic minority,” said Prof Hari Om while reacting to the Deputy Chief Minister’s statement.
Prof Hari Om expressed surprise over the Deputy Chief Minister’s statement saying that the Congress leader vouched for an Accord that had brought down the Congress government in the state and resulted in the re-installation of Sheikh Abdullah as CM in February 1975 whom her own father had him dismissed from the office of Wazir-e-Azam and arrested on the ground that he had conspired against India to achieve independence. He said that while the people of Jammu and Ladakh had opposed the Accord tooth and nail and forced Sheikh Abdullah government not only to give up his demand for greater autonomy but also to adopt more Central laws so that the state could be brought at par with other states of the Union, the bulk of the Congress leadership in the state had bemoaned the disturbing and unsettling move of Indira Gandhi to dislodge the Congress government and brought back to power a Kashmiri leader who had subverted the polity and caused immense harm to Jammu and Ladakh by pursuing divisive and anti-Jammu and anti-Ladakh policies.
Political Advisor to State BJP President said that the BJP will accept only that change that brings J&K closer to New Delhi than ever before and empower the neglected and marginalized regions and ignored social groups and minorities in the state. “The BJP stands for a dispensation that doesn’t make any distinction between man and man, man and woman and region and region and that is based on the principle of justice and equity,” said Prof Hari Om, and asked Congress leaders like Tara Chand not to walk trap of Kashmiri leadership which has consistently played foul politics and blackmailed New Delhi to promote its own selfish interests.
