Srinagar, May 05 (Scoop News) –Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon launched the Inland River Water Transport, on a trial basis, with motor boats of Tourism Department, today from Ghat located on River Jehlum, near the erstwhile Grindlays Bank (now J&K Bank) at Zero Bridge.
According to Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Aamir Ali in the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir that the Chief Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control Kashmir Ahmed Muzaffar Lanker has already allotted the contract for the inland water transport to M/s Kashmir Motors and the boats are expected to reach
In the meantime, the Tourism department has provided two motor boats which will run from Ghat at Lal Sheikh to Chattabal Wier on a daily basis from 9 am to 6 pm. The fare has been fixed at Rs. 25 per person from Ghat to Ghat and Rs 60 per head from Chattabal to Lal Chowk. The Ghats that have been identified for the purpose include Zero Bridge (right side), Lal Ded Ghat (left side), Amira Kadal (right side), DC office (left side), Habba Kadal (left side), Fate kadal near steel bridge (right side), Shahi Hamdan Masjid (right side), Nawakadal near Bulbul Shah Shrine (right side), Safa kadal (right side) and Chattabal wier (left side).
Present at the launch ceremony were Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Baseer Ahmed Khan, Director Tourism Kashmir Farooq Ahmed Shah, Commissioner SMC, Dr GN Qasba, Superintending Engineer IFC Hamid Mehmood Shah, Executive Engineer IFC Imtiaz Ahmed Dhar and Head Disaster Management Aamir Ali.
