If animals deserve our attention, love and affection, why don’t they get insured ?It is true and happening in Thailand.
In Thailand dogs are now eligible for life insurance under a new policy that offers payouts to owners , if their pets die, as revealed by a veterinarian.
About 2000 dogs have already been insured and issued with insurance policies, since the introduction of the insurance scheme to pet animals, last year.
According to the veterinarian Sombat Pippattanamattha, locally bred dogs would receive a coverage worth upto 10,000 baht ($ 320), while foreign pedigrees can get upto 500,000 faht ($ 15,870).
‘Since dogs are like family members, naturally they should be well cared for’,
Sombat being the consultant of the company that developped policies for dogs,he is now working on plans that would provide benefits to dogs in non-fatal accidents and that would cover injuries to humans in dog attacks.
Though pet insurance is available in other countries, but the innovative ideas providing high-end services to animals is gaining popularity in Thailand, since the growing middle class spends more on dogs with fancy pedigrees.
Well, one can no longer even abuse a person as ‘dog’ which would perhaps enhance his value but not degrade him and one may even get punishment as if he or she is abusing a dog community !
