Srinagar, May 13(Scoop News) –An interschool seminar on disaster preparedness was held at Shadab Higher Secondary Institute, Dangerpora, Mallabagh on Saturday. 30 students drawn from 13 Higher Secondary Schools of Srinagar participated in the seminar. The participants highlighted the various aspects of disaster preparedness and how it can be made more effective.
The seminar was presided over by Syed Aijaz Qalander Principal DIET Srinagar. Coordinator Disaster Management Kashmir, Aamir Ali was the Guest of Honour. Others present on the occasion were MR Chapu, HOD, Ghulam Rasool Bhat, Shabir Ahmed Mir, Lecturer, Mehrajuddin Zargar, Mohammed Ramzan, ZEO Gulabagah, and Shoukat Ahmed Shah Principal Shadab Hr Secondary also participated.
Speaking on the occasion Syed Aijaz Qalander appreciated the initiative taken by the Shadab Institute and assured that similar seminars would be held in future as well with participation from all the government and private schools of Srinagar. Aamir Ali said that under the guidance of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, various initiatives have been taken for disaster preparedness, which includes trainings in various educational institutions. He implored the students to actively participate in the trainings so that in the event of any calamity they can act as trained resources and provide support to the needy.
In order the encourage the children for the excellent content, a total cash prize of Rs. 10,000 was announced for the first three participants, on approval of Div Com Kashmir out of funds available under Urban Risk Reduction Project for Srinagar. First prize of Rs. 5,000 was bagged by Sabah Farooq of New Convent School, second prize of Rs. 3,000 went to Sadam Hussain of Kashmir Harward, while as third prize of Rs. 2,000 was won by Khushbu of Shadab Higher Secondary Institute. Certificates of participation were distributed amongst the participants. The three prize winning essays would be published in the leading newspapers, in order to encourage the students and inspire other children.
