Jammu & Kashmir:
Government of India, in a bid to carry out another timeconsuming experiment has come up with 3 interlocutors to find solution of
Kashmir problem in a year. Appointment of 3 interlocutors sounds mocking when
compared to earlier arrangements including Prime Ministers Working Groups for
Confidence Building Measures (CBM), track-2 diplomacy and above all 60 years of
main stream politics. Eminent journalist Dileep Padgaonkar, noted academician
Radha Kumar and Central Information Commissioner M M Ansari were appointed as
interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir on October 13 had a meeting with Union Home
Minister, P. Chidambaram on October 19. They had been tasked to chart a course
towards finding a political solution barring any sort of "red lines".
According to Chidambaram, Jammu and Kashmir is a political problem and solution
to the problem is to be found politically. To this if need to appoint more
interlocutors arise, will be done, he asserted.
Question arises did successive governments in India knew
that J&K was a political problem? If yes what efforts were done in solving
it for the past more than 60 years and if no then what compelled UPA led regime
to declare J&K as a political problem. J&K been identified by India
politicians as integral part of India with right to democratic exercise of
electioneering, wherein participation of people have been witnessed by and
large to elect their representatives without any fear and compulsion. It is
important to mention that during 2008 elections around 60% turn out of voting
was recorded, which is higher to any other states in the country.
From Musharaf’s four point formula to Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh’s five round table conferences of confidence building and all
party delegation of Parliamentarians to J&K besides many more tactics has
yielded nothing concrete so far. Most important to notice is that report
prepared by each and every committee shows similarity in one or the other
context. Under such circumstances one fails to understand, what new innovative
report would be presented by three interlocutors? Being tall personalities and well reputed in
their respective fields, interlocutors would have to perform assigned task in a
different manner. Which remains worth to watch?
One of the political analyst and senior trade union leader,
who is in Mumbai to attend three days Kashmir Conference, termed appointment of
interlocutors nothing more than time consuming process. He suggested that need
is to educate masses who fall pray to anti- national elements. So called
leaders of cause are exploiting innocent children for their vested political
and monetary benefits, he said and added that kiths of these well wishers of
Kashmir people are enjoying in leading educational institutes and royal life
style in expensive cities world across at the cost of lives of these innocents
exploited in the name of faith. Wait and watch policy has become out dated for
dealing Kashmir situation as people of Jammu and Ladakh regions feel alienated with
every passing day, he hinted. It is time to take concrete steps in positive
direction to solve the issue once far all besides developing confidence among
the masses of other two regions to ensure peaceful and prosperous Jammu and
Kashmir, he advised.
It is important to mention that barring National Conference
and Congress coalition all other political, regional and social organizations
have expressed discontent with the GoI’s this move. It is darbar move time and various
political parties have already started preparation for strike against CM, Omar
Abdullah’s statement about accession.
