International Community Expects A Lot From Sen. Obama

Just days ago, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois had defeated Senator Hillary Clinton of New York in the Democratic race. The final two contests had finished and Obama came out as the presumptive Democratic nominee. Many have prepared to acknowledge Obama as the presumed Democratic nominee.

Presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona did not hesitate to start off the general election season by attacking Obama on the night of victory. But, it seems many across the world are hoping that Obama ends up as US President. Let’s not delve into McCain’s remark about the Palestinian militant group wanting Obama as president, yet.

There is plenty of time for McCain to use that remark later.

In a nutshell, the international community is expecting a lot from the presumed Democratic nominee.

The first thing on the list that the world would expect Obama to do is to end the war in Iraq. Over the years, the war in Iraq has become very unpopular. Recent polls say that the issue of the economy is at the top of the minds of most Americans. Iraq has come in at a very distant second.

Obama has said that he has been against the war from the start. That played well against Clinton, who voted to let Bush invade Iraq in 2003. This is one of Obama’s most difficult tasks if he becomes US President.

Iraq has been the main platform of McCain’s candidacy.

Obama would also have to deal with the global food crisis that hurts many countries across the world.

Other difficult tasks would be bridge building with Muslim countries. These tasks are enveloped by one major expectation: undo the approach taken by current US President George W. Bush and his administration.

For Obama, this is no walk in the park. That is in regards to what is going on in a global scale. If Obama wins the presidency, he will be leading a nation with a slowing economy and engaged in two wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan. There is also the issue of Iran as well.

Obama has much opposition on his stances in regards to issues: Israel, Iraq, Pakistan, Palestine, and so forth.

But, many across the world greatly support Obama’s bid for the US presidency. But, many are still skeptic due to Obama’s ethnicity. However, younger voters in the US have felt Obama’s ethnicity is an asset.

In a nutshell, Obama has expectations to meet on both a domestic and an international level should he be elected president this November. But, many across the globe are excited about the 2008 US Presidential Elections. For the most part, it will be an interesting election year.
