International community should assist Pakistan against insurgency: Zardari

Pakistan: The Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari urged the international community to come forth and assist Pakistan in this hour of ordeal.

He was speaking to a U.S. TV channel he said the Taliban are not only a threat to Pakistan and Afghanistan but to the whole world.

The Taliban are a challenge of 21st century and a menace to the peace and a new battle, he added.

When he was asked whether Pakistan is going to collapse, he responded we are 180 million people; the population is much more than insurgents, who are a few thousands.

The ISPR (Inter Services Public Relations) issued a statement about the ongoing military operation in Swat and Buner that states some 180-200 militants have been killed in the last 24 hours.

Thousands of families are moving from the troubled areas of Swat, Buner and Lower Dir, towards the camps that have been established in different parts of North Western Pakistan

On the other hand, a religious party, Jamat-e-Islami took out a protest rally in Lahore today against the U.S. drone attacks and the killing of civilians in the tribal areas of North Western Pakistan.

Moreover, the speakers urged the government to stop the drone attacks and the killings of innocent civilians of the tribal areas by the United States.
