Calling concerned citizens to bring to an end the atrocities and inhuman behavior exhibited by Nepal Police, Team Together For Rights, Facebook Activist Group active ever since the incorrect move of detaining youngsters just on charge of having long hair and studs, expressed their solidarity to Occupy Baluwataar Group on Day 78 demonstrating for end of impunity.
This is the first event ever earmarked against Police Brutality on March 15. Activists held peaceful demonstration in front of the official residence of newly sworn-in new Prime Minister Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi in Baluwataar. They held placards saying "Stop Police Brutality", "Stop Hooliganism in Uniform." They chanted slogans against police brutality and demanded the police’s harsh and rude speech to be improved. Also the group sang a song led by one of the activist leading singer of Nepal Ms. Abhaya Subba Weiss.
The invitation of the Facebook Group read the following:
Have you ever been harassed by the police one time or the other, when you were innocently going about your business? Did you feel angry but could do nothing about it? Did your rage seem impotent? Every rage has it’s day and, this Friday, March 15, is the "International Day Against Police Brutality". We are calling for a demonstration against police brutality on the very day at Baluwatar. Since Occupy Baluwatar also has the same views against impunity and high handedness we have decided to join our voices with them.
Taking it to the streets is a step toward building resistance to police brutality on a practical level. We call everyone who has ever been mistreated, ever been harrased or have been humiliated by the police when they had done nothing wrong to join us to ask them to respect the civilians who give them respect!
The event starts at 9 and ends at 11. Speak
