The Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Production Department (Jammu and Kashmir), Mrs. Sonali Kumar, has said that floriculture was receiving impetus in the State to develop it as an important self-employment generating sector. She said there is lot of potential for cultivation of flower varieties for commercial purposes.
Mrs. Kumar was inaugurating the 4th International Flora Expo 2008 at New Delhi today.
More than 200 companies engaged in planting material, production, input supplies from across the world are participating the 3-day expo. The State has also established one stall in this expo to familiarize people with the floral wealth of the State. About 55 growers from various parts of the state have been sponsored by the Government.
Principal Secretary asked the State flower growers to take advantage of the event and interact with the participants of different countries to acquire knowledge about the marketing, procurement of quality planting material, tools and latest trends for developing the commercial floriculture. She said the government would provide all necessary help to the interested parties to make this business flourish in the state.
Flowers Growers Association of State has appreciated the role of Agriculture Production Department and thanked the Principal Secretary for providing them an opportunity to participate in such a mega event, which would go a long way in improving their productivity and quality.
