The movie “Star Trek: Into Darkness” is an exercise in disjointed storytelling, mind-numbing action, and occult symbology. I like a story that is going somewhere—but it doesn’t have to go light-years away, and it doesn’t have to linger in the darkness, to get my attention. The sci-fi genre has always been dubious at best—relying so much on humanistic and utopian fantasies—but recently many sci-fi movies have spun up a fascination with darkness, bleakness, and evil.
LIGHT AND DARKNESS
Movie producers wield a certain amount of power and influence, but I object to the basic premise of the movie—into the darkness! As those created by the Most High God, we are obliged to seek Jesus, who is the Light, and therefore to avoid the darkness, not plunge into it!
We know from John 3:19b that “[M]en loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (KJV). So evildoers love the darkness, and a dark society produces dark movies. “For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people (Isaiah 60:2a KJV). With darkness covering the earth and gross darkness covering the people, dark movies are being churned out at an alarming rate.
Dabbling in darkness is a bad idea, because if one is not equipped with the “whole armor of God” (Ephesians 6) then darkness just might grab ahold of one’s heart. After all, darkness has its own power, as we see in Jesus’ words to his captors after being betrayed by Judas with a kiss: “[T]his is your hour and the power of darkness” (Luke 22:53 KJV). Movies that linger in the darkness, without pointing to the saving power of Jesus, will therefore necessarily exhibit a “power of darkness.”
GENETIC TINKERING A LA GENESIS 6
The ostensible bad guy in “Star Trek: Into Darkness” is Khan, sometimes known as John Harrison and sometimes known as Khan Noonien Singh. He’s a Brit, no he’s a Chinese, no he’s a Brit, no he’s Chinese. It’s all very confusing, just like the Enemy (who masquerades as an angel of light, per 2 Corinthians 11) likes it. Whatever he is, he’s tall and, in his own smarmy words, “genetically engineered to be genetically superior.”
The genetically-tinkered Khan brings to mind the fallen angels’ genetic tinkering campaign in which they “went into” the “daughters of men,” producing the “mighty men of old” or “men of renown” (Genesis 6). Given the tremendous intellect of Khan and his uncanny ability to decimate large numbers of opponents with his bare hands, he would surely seem to be a “man of renown” and akin to the Nephilim mold.
Biblically speaking, the fallen angels “which kept not their first estate” have been reserved in “everlasting chains under darkness” unto judgment (Jude 1:6 KJV). In the same vein, “filthy dreamers” that “go after strange flesh” are “carried about of winds” like “wandering stars to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever” (Jude 1:7-8, 13 KJV). Surely we should make every attempt to cling to Jesus, to avoid being a wandering star reserved for black darkness forever!
KHAN/KRONOS ASSOCIATION
But the Khan character gets even more unsettling, given his association with the Greek god Kronos. Khan goes to Kronos, just as the Kronos of myth was sent to Tartaros (Tartarus) by his sibling-rescuing son, Zeus; Khan leaves Kronos at will, much as the Kronos of myth was released from Tartarus by Zeus and sent to a paradisal place at the end of the earth [ignoring the Luke 16:26 description of hell as a place that is eternally separated from the light and the good]; and Khan kills Captain Pike (a father figure to Captain Kirk), just as the Kronos of myth killed his father Uranus. Consistently, the Khan character plays off of dark Greek mythology, seemingly without regard for Biblical warnings.
THE DARK SIDE OF CRYO-SLEEP
Another strange aspect of Khan is his association with cryo-sleep, and by extension, with the satanic conceit that men don’t have to die and can be like gods (Genesis 3: 4-5). According to Hebrews 9:27, “[I]t is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (NASB), but Khan, being a man of renown, comes out of a 300-year cryo-sleep in the movie; at movie’s end, he goes into yet another round of cryo-sleep! Wow, that’s a lot of sidestepping death!
HUMANISM
Sidestepping death is just one prong of the Star Trek formula, which overall is a fairly humanistic affair. “In Gene Roddenberry’s future,” notes TheChristianNerd.com, “humanity moves beyond its darkness by sheer will. Unfortunately our darkness is too deep and no matter how hard we try, no matter how advanced our technology, it will always be there. Thankfully Jesus gives us the opportunity to [get] out of the darkness and into the light.”
The very motto of the Star Trek series is notably humanistic in flavor: “To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” If I’m not mistaken, the God of Israel’s injunction that we “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 9:1b KJV) means that we are earth-based, and there are enough strange microcosms here on earth that we need not attempt the colonization of “strange new worlds” in outer space. Of course, we want to grow and test our abilities, but the born-again believer in Jesus should be assured that King Jesus will come back and reign from Jerusalem, cause the present heavens and earth to pass away, bring about a new heaven and earth, and bring the New Jerusalem down to the new earth; we need not obsess on Saturn’s atmosphere, the moon’s minerals, or the canyons on Mars. When we behold God’s creation, we are seeing various aspects of God’s “eternal power and Godhead” on display (Romans 1:20 KJV), so we don’t need to look for new life and new civilizations in space when there are many kinds of life and civilization right here on earth—it would be a shame if space missions obsessed on the quest for a drop of water on another planet to the point of ignoring the thirsty children right here on earth.
To be sure, it is good to look up and expect Jesus. After all, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handiwork” (Psalms 19:1 KJV). It is good to marvel ever more at God’s handiwork by deepening our understanding of our atmosphere and outer space, but instead of extolling Saturn’s rings, let us extol the Lord Jesus Christ (who made the heavens) and form a ring of protection around family, the poor and needy, our nation, and what’s left of the Judeo-Christian West.
King Jesus says, “I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture” (John 10:9 KJV); King Jesus is the door, and the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14), so why attach oneself to the dubious ideals of the Starship Enterprise when one can cling to the very real mercy and grace of Jesus? “[F]or he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth” (John 12:35c KJV), and in my humble estimation, the crew of “Into Darkness” do not know where they’re going. Whereas the academy would have us believe we need to find out the surface of the moon, I would suggest that our soul’s desire is really to be with King Jesus in new resurrection bodies! “For we know that, if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven” (2 Corinthians 5:1-2 KJV). Moreover, “even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body” (Romans 8:23b KJV).
SEXUAL UNCLEANNESS
Of course, the San Francisco bar scene in “Into Darkness” is complete with “space aliens” or transhuman chimeras that are ostentatiously tongue-kissing, extending long nasty tongues in the open air for all in the bar to see. The hideous aspect of those things and their mockery of clean affection demand that we soberly reflect on the demise of the pre-Flood world and of Sodom and Gomorrah due to the continual practice of evil (Genesis 6 & 19). There is no debate over whether art affects real life—yes, it does, and evil art engenders evil behavior. So much of the modern world is saturated with carnality and greed that Paul’s message to the worldly Corinthians shimmers with relevancy: “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 KJV). Let me say, I was not edified by the tawdry bar scene in “Into Darkness”—I say this not as a prude, or as a prune, but as someone who wishes for a day when our homes, schools, communities, states, and nation will once again exude a vibrant spirit of Protestant (non-Roman) Christianity.
A festive party, a satisfying meal, an exuberant “holy kiss” (2 Corinthians 13:12)—these are wonderful, and should not be tainted by the licentious
expressions of workers of darkness posing as artistes.
THE NUMBER 72
In this strange, occult tale, Spock beams 72 torpedoes at the USS Vengeance, which is piloted by Khan. The armed torpedoes disable the
Vengeance’s weapon systems, and Spock keeps the 72 cryo-pods containing Khan’s 72 superhuman (genetically-engineered) colleagues on board the
Enterprise. Having lost his weaponry and his genetically-tinkered cohorts, Khan then plows the Vengeance into San Francisco.
The number 72 here represents genetically-tinkered beings that are under an evil leader. Does that sound like a spin-off of any Bible story? “The Kaballah,” according to Commentaries on the Occult Philosophy of Agrippa by Willy Schrodter, “names 72 … national angelic regents, which the Hebrews call … [Shining Ones]…. The office of a Watcher is to protect from outside pressures a region or ethnic group assigned to its care….” But given the Kaballah’s mystical and occult orientation; its inclusion of elements of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Gnosticism; and its promulgation by Madonna and at Gorbachev’s 1997 State of the World Forum, one would be wise to eschew Agrippa’s notion of 72 “shining ones” who supposedly are protectors. We know that Lucifer/Satan masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11), but he is not of the light, but is of the darkness.
According to Marcia Montenegro, “The Kaballah ‘discusses angels and demons, souls’ journeys after death, reincarnation, resurrection, and the goal of achieving messianic consciousness’…. It is not about ‘rote obedience [to] laws and commands but is rather a spiritual tool to enable us to regain unity with God….’” Moreover, Montenegro notes that in the Kabbalah teachings, one can “become a vessel of light and regain Eden”; “be a co-creator with God”; “earn the Light on one’s own”; “rebuild the vessel of oneself through one’s own work in the world”; and be reincarnated through a long series of lives, deaths, and rebirths during which one is “ever repairing one’s vessel.” Yehuda Berg teaches that “we print our own ticket to Paradise through our individual work!” Biblically, we should keep Jesus’ commandments (John 14), Jesus is the Creator (Colossians 1:16-17), we cannot regain unity with the Father on our own but only through Jesus the Son (John 14), and we cannot regain Eden (or be saved) on our own but rather it is by grace we are saved, through faith, not by works lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2)—so obviously the Kabbalah is pagan, New Age blasphemy opposed to the Word of God, and the “72 shining ones” of the Kaballah can be rightly understood as demonic masqueraders.
In Egyptian myth, Osiris was assassinated and put in a coffin by the 72 accomplices of Set, and a “resurrected Osiris” is revered as a god of the underworld. Osiris’ mother is Isis—her devotion to her “reconstituted” son forms the template for the pagan, Roman Catholic devotion to Mary as expressed in the Mary-and-child scenes that are so common at Catholic schools, and the Isis statue also known as the US Statue of Liberty was “gifted” to unsuspecting Americans by French Freemasons.
At Borobudur, a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist monument near Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia, the main dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues seated inside perforated stupas.
In Islam, aspiring martyrs (jihadists) think they’ll be rewarded with 72 dark-eyed, ever-willing virgins in the afterlife. Koranic commentator Al-Suyuti declared, “Each time we sleep with a [dark-eyed damsel] we find her virgin … and the erection is eternal … and all [the virgins] will have appetizing [privates].” Such writings from the Hadith (Islamic tradition) are graphic, and reminiscent of both Baal-Peor and Baal-Ashteroth worship.
In Chinese astrology, there are 72 malevolent stars and 36 beneficial stars, giving a total of 108 stars—curiously, there are 108 hao han, or “heroes,” in Outlaws of the Marsh, a famous Ming-dynasty novel on fighting strategy and a favorite of Chinese Communist dictator and monster, Mao Zedong. This Chinese astrological formula of 72 evil stars and 36 good stars is an obvious reversal of the Biblical story in Revelation 12, in which one-third of the angels fell from heaven with Lucifer, leaving two-thirds to continue in the service of the LORD God of Israel: “And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him…. And [the brethren] overcame [the accuser/Satan] because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he had only a short time” (Revelation 12:7-9, 11-12 NASB).
In Taoism, there are 72 immortals, many of which are described in the Liexianzhi (Collected Biographies of Immortals) from the 2nd
century. Hagiographer Du Guangting noted that the Tang dynasty (in which China was in charge) was essentially Taoist in complexion, adducing the 72 sanctuaries (fudi) and 36 lesser “cavern-heavens” (dongtian) to make his point (again giving the occult number 108, as in Chinese astrology and the fighting tome favored by monster Mao). The “immortal” Ge Xuan is said to have ascended from Gezao Mountain in Jiangxi Province, and The Treatise on Maoshan (Maoshanzhi) from 1329 details the doings of Taoists at or near the Maoshan mountain retreat.
Confucius, not to be left out, is said to have had 72 disciples.
If the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza is 756 feet long, and assuming the ancient reed measurement was 10.5 feet, then that pyramid would be 72 reeds long on each side, according to GreatDreams.com. Moreover, numerous crop-circle formations resonate with the number 72: the Marden Formation has 72 points (4 rings of 18 points per ring) and the Windmill Hill Formation has 72 circles in each one if its quadrants.
In certain satanic rituals, the participants try to invoke the names of 72 demons, according to About.com; and the Talmud (the oral law of Judaism, second to the Torah) declares that the demons are divided into 72 companies.
A certain version of the Bible even fits into this discussion of 72 in a roundabout way. “After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go…. The seventy-two returned with joy and said, ‘Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name’” (Luke 10:1, 17 NIV). Because the translations I favor—the King James Version and the New American Standard Bible—both say 70 disciples went out instead of 72, who changed it from 70 to 72?! Maybe the same people who tried to change Lucifer into the “morning star” in Isaiah 14?!
To wit, in the KJV Isaiah 14:12 reads as “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning” [underline added]! Whereas in the NIV Isaiah 14:12 reads as “How have you fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn” [underline added]! In effect, the New International Version translators (like bad, worldly globalists) changed “Lucifer” to “morning star!” And because Revelation 22:16 refers to Jesus as the morning star, methinks the NIV tampering should not be allowed to stand: “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star” (Revelation 22:16 KJV). It’s clear that the occult strand of 72 wheedled its way into the NIV; fortunately, Holy Writ is Holy Spirit–breathed and Jesus, the Word (John 1), is alive.
There are 72 Masonic lodges in Sweden, according to MasonCode.com, and on the Great Seal (on the back of the dollar) there are 72 stones on the front face of the pyramid (excluding the bottom panel which features the date). In my estimation, the Freemasons—occult cousins of the Gnostics, Rosicrucians, Knights Templar, and Jesuits—made the Masonic lodges and the Great Seal pyramid stones to number 72.
Finally, there are actually 72 pentagrams on the frieze—depicting George Washington’s supposed apotheosis—on the Capitol Rotunda dome, according to Thomas Horn and Cris Putnam’s Petrus Romanus.
Followers of Jesus can take heart that the icky set that perpetuates occult strands like that of 72 will get their comeuppance. Indeed, kingdoms and empires that have reveled in the art of dark insinuations and demonic pollution will be crushed: “In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever” (Daniel 2:44 NASB). In the modern vernacular … bam!
CHINESE LINK
Khan Noonien Singh, the British-Chinese or Chinese-British super-alloy, says he’s a peacekeeper, but his rash of killing sprees in the movie put the lie to his hollow words. In June 2013 Chinese Communist dictator Xi Jinping met with the US President at the Sunnylands estate in Rancho Mirage, California—surely any alliance between a largely Judeo-Christian America and Communist China is an abject mirage, and the fruit of a post-Christian/Communist partnership will be anything but sunny for the true church of Jesus Christ. Apparently not enough Christians have been driven underground, harassed, monitored, imprisoned, or bludgeoned to death for the United States to realize that the dragons in Beijing are unreliable snakes? Permit me to share this “un-sunny” vignette from David Hunt’s The Heavenly Man: “The [Public Security Bureau men] … beat [the good Pastor Yun] viciously with their fists, wooden sticks, [and] gun handles, and they kicked and electrocuted him…. [T]hey took him and lifted him up to hang from handcuffs in the back of a truck. They started to drive like crazy men, around and around with him hanging from his wrists. His body slammed into the metal framework and the handcuffs cut his wrists to the bone. He was soon covered in blood from his many wounds.” Clearly the Communists and the Jesuits of the Inquisition share a sadistic streak and a visceral hatred of the people of the Book.
Hudson Taylor’s China Inland Mission propelled thousands of Westerners to spread the Gospel of the Lord Jesus in China. According to Disarming the Red Dragon: How the Bible is Bringing Down the Terror of Communism, by Wm. Thomas Bray and Nora Lam, “Local politicians resented the missionary clinics, schools, and zealous street preaching of the foreigners. The missionaries preached against opium addiction, foot binding, gambling, prostitution, and a host of … injustices…. In the most famous … anti-foreign [riot], the Boxers killed over 200 Christian missionaries and 2,000 Chinese believers in 1900. By 1949 … 5,600 Protestant missionaries were finally forced to flee from the people they loved…. By late 1958 only eight of the 200-plus churches in Shanghai were left [as a result of persecution by the Three Self Patriotic Movement]. In Beijing, the 66 Protestant churches were reduced to four! [During the Cultural Revolution of 1966-76,] all law and order broke down as millions of teenagers [ie, Red Guards] looted the homes of Christians [and other non-Maoists] looking for ‘old ideologies, old customs, old morals, and old habits’…. [During the period of Communist control in China since the late 1950’s,] the majority of Christians outside China have stood on the side of those persecuting the Church and have continually criticized the victims of this injustice” [italics mine].
And don’t forget the horror of Chinese Communism, with its attendant power-hungry, atheistic mallet. Reportedly, Mao accepted the prospect of killing off one-tenth of peasants (roughly 50 million) in order to carry out agrarian reforms. One estimate holds that suppression of counter-revolutionaries (people not giddy over Mao) in that period included 712,000 executions, 1.29 million labor-camp imprisonments, and 1.2 million who were otherwise harassed and detained.
Frank Dikӧtter, author of Mao’s Great Famine, noted that “coercion, terror, and systematic violence were the very foundation of the Great Leap Forward,” and put the death toll at 45 million for that horrendous event. In 1959 Mao ordered the seizing of one-third of the grain in the countryside, leaving many millions to starve. Dikӧtter, who analyzed many of China’s local and provincial archives, figures that 2.5 million people were executed or tortured to death in that black period. Truly, the so-called “Great Leap Forward” should be known as the Terrible Leap Backwards.
Then the “Cultural Revolution” happened. In August 1966, Mao suggested that “the sign of a true revolutionary is his desire to kill,” and the Red Guards were given a wide berth as they wreaked violence against perceived “counter-revolutionaries.” Mao instructed the police to stand down in the face of Red Guard mayhem, and even the PLA did not stop the Red Guards’ violence until 1969.
According to Conservapedia.com, a 1967 poster depicted a Red Guard crushing the crucifix, the Buddha, and classical Chinese texts with a big hammer—it read “Destroy the old world, forge the new world.” According to FreeRepublic.com, the national police chief, Xie Fuzhi, said it was “no big deal” if Red Guards were beating “bad people” to death. The swelling army of Red Guards showed up at Tian’anmen Square 11-million-strong, and Mao and Lin Biao took turns praising them. In 1972, even before the Chinese Communists could complete their 10 years of chaos, American appeasers Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger met with Mao, giving credibility to Communism and mass murder, and accelerating American decline.
On June 4, 1989, the Tian’anmen Square Massacre took place, after the ruling elites lost patience with China’s democracy protesters that had been amassed in the square for weeks. According to data culled from local hospitals by the Chinese Red Cross, 2,600 people were killed, mostly in fighting in Beijing’s Western Suburbs as the PLA made its way to the square. Reformer and Premier Zhao Ziyang was put under house arrest for 15 years—till his death.
Bearing in mind the civil war between the Communists and the Kuomintang forces during the Forties, the Great Leap Forward in the late Fifties, the Cultural Revolution in the late Sixties, and the June 4th Incident in the late Eighties, it would seem that massive violence has erupted in China about once every 12 years for the period 1940-1990. That being the case, China’s bloodlust would seem ready to erupt at any moment now.
Chi Haotian, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Military Commission (CMC), told his generals in 2005 that China must go to war against the United States, according to WatchUnto.blogspot.com. Moreover, Christians Dumitru Duduman and Henry Gruver (both invested with the gift of prophecy) predicted that Russia and China would attack the US, buoyed by troops from Korea, Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Nicaragua, and Arab nations. However, at least Gruver saw that after terrible devastation Missouri forces would receive angelic aid and would push back the attackers.
Nevertheless, in spite of (and seemingly oblivious to) this background, NBC reported that the early June, 2013, US-China summit at Rancho Mirage, California, was aimed at producing a new kind of “great power relationship.” As far as I’m concerned, when Communists are bubbling over their newfound power at the expense of a once-great Protestant nation, there is no “great power relationship” involved, but only a parade of tyrants and whores (spiritually, politically, economically, technologically, industrially, and militarily speaking).
But don’t worry—Khan in “Into Darkness” says he’s a peacekeeper, and NBC, in a breathtaking show of investigative reporting, found out from Vogue China that the new Chinese dictator’s wife has nice clothes.
DESTRUCTION OF AN AMERICAN CITY
Finally, “Into Darkness” contains disturbing scenes of the destruction of San Francisco. Khan, the Chinese-British fake peacekeeper crashes his Starship Vengeance into the City by the Bay, cutting down skyscrapers, and thousands of lives, as he goes. But for the spiritually vacuous, politically socialistic, creators of science fiction fare, self-flagellation is standard operating procedure. Oh, yeah: San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge was crushed by falling space debris in “Star Trek”; subjected to apocalyptic ruination in “Terminator: Salvation”; half-buried in “Land of the Lost”; melted by space rays in “The Core”; and torn in half in the comic book “Book of Eli,” according to StudyLight.org. Of course, San Francisco really is home to much sodomy, fornication, and other uncleanness—the downward spiral track of the so-called “free love” hippie days in the Sixties and Seventies—and the lesson of Genesis 19 veritably hovers over Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Bellingham. Abraham stood in the gap for those in Sodom but the damage was already done due to a lack of righteousness in Sodom and the surrounding cities: “Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; and He overthrew those cities, and that which grew upon the ground” (Genesis 19:24-25 KJV).
Nonetheless, should not our role be to commune with the LORD God of Israel in prayer and petition to Him for the regeneration of the hearts of our people, and even for the integrity of our cities and our national leaders? Should we not do as Abraham did, and seek regeneration even in the midst of a dark and demonic culture? Surely, our role should not be as chortlers and scoffers, egging on darkness and destruction.
And what of this urge to show one of the country’s treasures—San Francisco—mangled and in ruins? Is that entertainment for Americans? Have we sunk so low as that? In between home viewings of movies on disk, cell phone calls, texting-while-walking, and fiddling with eBook readers, can we take a few moments to appreciate the grandeur and technological prowess and sweat (and sacrifice) that the Golden Gate Bridge represents? After all, the San Francisco Bay is no joke, and that bridge connects beautiful Marin County and the wine country to the City. I prefer the older movies when there was more love of country and respect for our goodly Judeo-Christian heritage. Indeed, in the last days perilous times shall come, and traitorous artwork will abound: “For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God…. [F]rom such turn away” (2 Timothy 3:2-4, 5b KJV).
In the realm of art and culture, much that passes for high art nowadays is actually filth and drivel. Much that passes for progress is actually a regression into tyranny and paganism—the dark night of despair. The answer to our problems, our ambitions, our angst—our sins!— is not more occult geometry or humanistic declarations, but rather the answer is Jesus the Christ, the only begotten Son of God, our Savior and Lord and King. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8 KJV).
