The voters of Iowa have a long history of looking past the front-runners and rejecting female candidates. However, it would not be the case of Hillary Clinton due to being a female candidate. Iowa’s voters have seen the other two Democrats, Barack Obama and John Edwards and feel they can offer a new start in the White House.
In the case of Hillary, she is a former First Lady. Her husband Bill Clinton was the forty second President of the United States. But on Hillary’s part, it was not a lack for trying as she focuses most of her resources into the state after one of her top advisers objected to that move.
The adviser gave Hillary a warning that moving too soon would be difficult for her. While Hillary would use her star power amongst the Democrats, both Mr. Obama and Mr. Edwards would have their own large followings by arguing that Washington DC needs a new direction.
The voters were interested in moving past George W. Bush’s presidency.
In the case of Hillary, it would look as if it will be difficult for her to win Iowa. Her campaign will have to lower expectations.
In the case of John Edwards, he has the benefit of long-standing relationships with the loyal Iowa voters according to Clinton’s advisers.
They pointed out that in the case of Barack Obama, his advantage is that he’s from a neighboring state.
While Obama and Edwards seem to have stronger campaigns according to her advisers, Clinton is not out of the race yet. If she wins, her victory would look to be highly impressive. If she loses, it would seem that it was expected the whole time.
