The 31st anniversary of the Iran’s Islamic Revolution saw mass protests and harsh government crackdowns, with hundreds of videos flooding YouTube despite internet restrictions meant to hamper communications.
The State Department reported yesterday that websites such as Google’s Gmail had been blocked by Iran’s government in anticipation of unrest.
The Wall Street Journal reported that pro-government forces were out in number, and suggested that "Tehran may have found a formula for damping future protests." However, the paper acknowledged that, "the full scope of the antigovernment turnout may not yet be known because of restrictions on Internet and cellphone services inside Iran"
