The announcement was made by the spokeswoman for Mohamed AL Baradei, the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This was at the end of talks in Iran with the Iranian leaders. At the moment, Iran is under two sets of sanctions by the United Nations Security Council for refusing to stop its uranium enrichment.
So far, the United States is pushing the United Nations to add more penalties.
At a speech in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Bush said that Iran both defies the United Nations and destabilizes the region because they refuse to be open about its nuclear programs and ambitions. He had called Iran the leading state sponsor of terror in the world.
Bush had urged the Arab nations to join the United States to confront the danger of Iran before it’s too late to do so.
However, a recent assessment by US intelligence said that it probably shut down a clandestine weapons program three years prior. It has led to increased resistance by both Russia and China that both have strategic trade ties with Iran.
Iran insists that it never wanted to work on atomic weapons. Instead, Iran wants to enrich uranium to produce fuel for reactors that would generate electricity.
In agreement to last year’s IAEA probe, Iran agreed to answer the questions that linger about its nuclear activities in the past. That includes the questions that Iran has evaded since 2003.
There is also raised interested at the former research center located at Lavizan-Shian which was razed by Iran before it allowed inspectors access. It is believed that this has been the repository of all bought equipment to be used in a nuclear weapons program.
