The Iranian defense ministry (“Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics”) in a statement released on Sunday warned the US (and its allies) currently waging war in Syria and Iraq to take extra care not to make any miscalculations with regard to Iran, because “we will crush you.”
The Iranian Ministry of Defense was formed in 1989 and has control both over Iran’s regular forces and over its Revolutionary Guard, particularly bringing the latter under the overall defense umbrella by reducing its institutional autonomy, abolishing its independent ministry and bringing its command structures under a single unified entity.
The statement continues:
“In compliance with the will of the late Imam Khomeini and the wise guidelines of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei), the Iranian nation still sees the US as the number one enemy of the Islamic Revolution,” said the statement released on the threshold of the anniversary of Ashoura, the climax of the remembrance of Muharram, marking the death of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and the revered Shiite Imam, Hossein Ibn Ali (AS) in the Battle of Karbala around 14 centuries ago.
“The Iranian nation does not allow the arrogant front and the enemies of the Islamic Republic to make any (hostile) move by maintaining its unity, national integrity and empathy as well as supporting active, wise and revolutionary diplomacy, and it will give a hard and repenting lesson to them in case they (the enemies) make any miscalculations,” it continued.
In a similar statement on Saturday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) issued a statement that underscored, in no uncertain terms, that the “US is still the main enemy of Iran and its Islamic Revolution.”
“The US is still the great Satan and the number one enemy of the (Islamic) revolution and the Islamic Republic and the Iranian nation inspired by the lessons of the great uprising of Ashoura, the eternal guidelines of the late Imam Khomeini as well as the wise and vigilant guidelines of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei as the roadmap and compass of its movement will never allow the dignity and independence of the Islamic homeland to be threatened and harmed by the will of the enemies,” said the IRGC statement.
The Pentagon refused comment on this story.
