Iranian government has offered to train 30 Kashmir University students

Srinagar, June 24  – The Iranian government has offered to train 30 Kashmir University students in Persian language in Iran. The offer came from the Director Cultural House of Iran embassy, Abdul Hameed Ziyaee during a two-day national seminar of Ghani Kashmir, the famous Persian poet of Kashmir.

          “We will train 30 students of Kashmir University and its affiliated colleges in language course for two months in Iran,” said Ziyaee during his address at the seminar. “Kashmir has had close cultural ties with Iran. There are many similarities between Iranian and Kashmir culture. Iran has influenced the literature of Kashmir too”.

Ziyaee thanked Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Riyaz Punjabi for encouraging collaboration between Kashmir University and various varsities of Iran.

The Director of Iran embassy’s cultural office was speaking at the inaugural function of two day seminar on Ghani Kashmiri. A 17th century poet, Ghani Kashmiri is among the most famous Persian poets that the subcontinent has produced. He lived during the reign of Aurangzeb and died in the early years of the 18th century. Even during his lifetime his fame transcended the borders of India and he was acknowledged in Iran as one of the great masters of Persian poetry. In India he exerted a great influence on the development of Persian and Urdu poetry and the great Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib translated more than 40 of his couplets into Urdu.

The Registrar Kashmir University, Prof Syed Fayaz presided over the seminar. In his inaugural address, Prof Fayaz spoke about the importance of Ghani Kashmir as a poet and termed the Persian language as the sweetest language. “It is the sweetness of the Persian language that has inspired the poets in Kashmir like Ghani Kashmiri,” he said. “Ghani Kashmir later earned a name in the Persian poetry in world”.

Prof Fayaz requested the Iranian government especially the top varsities of the country to help Kashmir University to develop its Persian department into centre of excellence  . He also urged upon the need to render the Persian languages into other languages. “This will be beneficial for the people across the world”.

On the occasion, the Kashmir University also inaugurated a three-week refresher course in Persian language. The course is sponsored by the Cultural House of the Iranian embassy in New Delhi.

The Head of the Department Persian, Prof M M Masoodi delivered the key note address during the function. The Director Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Prof Mushtaq Qureshi also spoke on the occasion and urged upon the Persian students of the Kashmir University to use the technological advancements to their benefit.  Prof Ibrahim Mohammedi of the Tehran University also spoke on the occasion.

The students and scholars of Kashmir University and other institutes especially from the oriental colleges of valley participated in the varsity besides a large number of religious scholars.

Several publications of the department of Persian including yearly annual “Danish” was  released on the occasion.
