According to Martinez, who has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, would use the Democrats’ weekly radio address as an example. He noted that during the previous radio address, Senator McCain of Arizona had received the endorsement of Us President George W. Bush after clinching the GOP nomination.
Martinez explained that it would not be good for the country of McCain is elected president. He explained that McCain would continue Bush’s policies in regards to Iraq and the war that is still taking place.
In that regard, Martinez said: “Our country and our armed services cannot afford another leader like President Bush who would keep our overstretched military in Iraq for 100 years while ignoring the other threats our country faces both at home and around the world.”
This was an attack on what John McCain had said recently about how US troops could be in the country for years. McCain has drawn a lot of criticism from rivals and anti-war advocates for giving the early indication that US troops could be in the nation for 100 years.
However, Martinez praised McCain on his military service. But, Martinez was quick to say that McCain does not offer the correct leadership in regards to Iraq. He adds that McCain does not know how to bring life back to the US economy.
While Martinez said that the troops are fighting with courage, he said that the military cannot solve the problems in Iraq as they are political problems and not military problems. Many have noted that the problems in Iraq are caused by problems of its political infrastructure and cannot be solved by the military.
Recently, the US Army had released a new manual explaining that soldiers need to win the hearts and minds of the locals.
Martinez also said that McCain is out of touch with families such as his.
“He says the economy is strong but how can he not see that families like mine are struggling to pay for out-of-control health care costs, home heating bills, gasoline and college tuition,” Martinez said criticizing McCain even more.
McCain had noted that Iraq would be the one issue that would either help or sink his candidacy.
