Out on the street
A boy is crying in a corner
Staring at his friend like he is mesmerized by something
They were playing a game like all other kids
then
his friend wasn’t moving just lying there
Out on the street
the man walks to the store
Roads are a mess
No pavement just dirt.
There are few cars
for those who can afford
one explodes and all are dead
Out on the street
A girl stumbles away crying
From the only home she has ever known
Bruises and scabs
Abused by her dad
And no one was there
to love
Inside her house
The women cooking for dinner
And everyone’s fine
a soldier comes in everyone stares at him
as if he himself is a sin
gun in hand he searches the house
pushing them around and
of course nothing was found.
