Barren land of Orghuch get water after 65 years under initiation of pipe irrigation scheme.

CHITRAL: Barren land consisting on hundreds of Acre at Orghuch get irrigation water pipeline after 65 years (the first developmental scheme since creation of Pakistan.) Sarhad Rural Support program (SRSP) donated some 4200 feet long pipe HDP of 6 inches diameter worth Rs: 2.3 million for this purpose. These pipes were provided to Orghuch area under Empowerment and Economic Development of communities in Khyberpahton Khwa and FATA
A function of third dialogue was held at Orghuch village under the chair of Qazi Muhammad Naeem Shah while Maulana Muhammad Ilyas was chief guest on the occasion. Prominent social worker Muhammad Wali Shah chairman highlighted different issues of the area including non availability of irrigation as well as drinking water. He said that in past Orghuch was thick forest area but now it present a desert look due to no irrigation water.
He said that we time and again requested state running organizations for providing pipeline or carrying irrigation water or construction of channel in the area to irrigate hundreds of acres barren land but all in vain. He thanked SRSP for donating 2.3 million rupees for pipeline for carrying irrigation water from Chitral goal stream.
Addressing on the occasion Tariq Ahmad District Program Manager of SRSP highlighted aim and objectives of SRSP. He said that SRSP always launch developmental schemes in most remote area which were neglected in past.
Maulana Muhammad Ilyas and other demanded for provision of potable drinking water because the women folk were carrying contaminated water of river in pitches on their heads for drinking purposes. He said that if SRSP provide them pipeline so local people will carry drinking water from spring through these pipelines. He highly hailed irrigation schemes which will play vital role in stopping deforestation of the area. Due to irrigation water people can plant sapling and plantation on their barrn land they can use branches of trees for cooking and heating purpose as in past people were using forest for this purpose he added.
People of the area expressed their great pleasure and seem busy in carrying these pipelines. Some children also told this scribe that in past we were deprived from water and now due to carrying water in pipe we can also bath and use this water for plantation as well as to sow vegetable and orchard.
It is worth to mention here that in past people of Orghuch had warn the government that if they were not provided irrigation and drinking water they will migrate to neighbor country but on the intervene of local administration they abandon their decision. Now people of the area get irrigation water for their barren land on first time since creation of Pakistan.
