Is Adversity A Lesson To People?

Life didn’t promise us a rose garden did it? Life never runs on an even keel regardless of how unyielding and honorable we try to live our lives. I don’t know about others but I often think when I’m struggling down in a valley, what I did to deserve this in my life. I’ve worked toward being a fair, honest and decent person…why me; why me? This is when I go to the Word of God for strength and courage and allow God to guide me toward reaching the mark that I’ve missed.

In the Holy Bible, King James Version and in the Book of Lamentations and in Verses 3: 22-24, it reminds me that in times of adversity that, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”

People cannot give in to the temptations of thinking, “Why is God doing this to them?” They must tread headlong knowing God is there beside them during all of their trials and tribulations and He is not about to leave them or forsake them. Every trial and tribulation a person suffers offers a learning tool of knowledge and realization and people need to remember this when they’re in the valley of darkness. There are “no” human beings living on this earth that doesn’t suffer through difficulties and mistakes in life and people should be aware not to blame God for their despairs but to lean on His word for the promise of peace and rest in their darkest hours and knowing they’re growing in wisdom.

When people face adversity in their life, they must realize that the burden that they tolerate through life bears them a cause for being a stronger and more knowledgeable person in their daily walk through life.

People often have a tendency to blame God for their trials and tribulations instead of turning to His word for direction; it tells people in Psalms 27: 5, 6, “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.”

I’ve seen many people in my lifetime question God and I think most of them do it as I’ve done subconsciously without thought. Many of the tests that I’ve endured have been as a growing tool for me and I’ve learned from those mistakes and it’s kept me from a path of unrighteousness and I look up to give praise to God for His guidance and leadership to get me through the toil I faced and knowing I’m growing in Him.

Facing adversity can be a rigorous challenge in anyone’s life but I’ve found verses in the Bible I want to share with you in 2 Corinthians 1: 8 – 9, it tells people, “For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: but we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead.”

These verses permitted me to know that people grow from hardships and situations they find themselves in throughout life. It offers me the knowledge of knowing all human beings suffer through tests in life for a purpose and that purpose is to grow in knowledge, courage, strength and desire through God’s guidance for them.

It’s my opinion that when people are unaccustomed to God and His word they come as babies eager for guidance from God in their life and God tests people to educate them in the severities of life enabling them to learn and to be able to move forward with life without hesitations and making the same mistakes over and over again. People’s mistakes teach them a lesson to grow and to become aware of worldly, financial and personal issues.

In Deuteronomy 8: 2 it tells people, “And you shall remember all the way which the Lord your God led you these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, and to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not.”

In Psalms 26:2 it also tells people, “Examine me, O Lord, and prove me: try my reins and my heart.”

I believe God teaches and tests people through trials and tribulations they have in their life. It’s not God punishing them but its God educating people to realize situations they’ll face in their life. Jeremiah 17: 10 it tells people, “I, the Lord, search the heart; I test the mind, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.”
