According to multiple sources, Senator Hillary Clinton of New York will end her run for president, concede victory to Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, and officially drop out of the Democratic race this coming Friday. However, it is not confirmed whether or not Clinton will leave the race.
In the history of the US elections let alone the history of the Democratic Party, there has not been a race where it has lasted the entire primary season. While the Republican nominee race ended in early March, the Democratic nominee race was a different story. Clinton and Obama fought tooth and nail against one another as they finished off every primary contest in the Democratic contest.
Despite the odds being stacked against her, Clinton refused to drop out. Clinton had shown signs of desperation that she brought up her argument to the superdelegates along with demanding that her delegates from Florida and Michigan be seated. But, both had blown up in Clinton’s face.
A compromise was reached by the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee on May 31. The number of delegates Clinton had won would be shaved in half. It did not do much to affect the delegate count as Obama still remained in the lead.
Yesterday when Obama clinched the nomination, Clinton said she would not make any decisions. Still, Obama had nothing but praise for Clinton.
So far, it is unknown if Clinton will really drop out this Friday. Sources have said so. Still, everything is unconfirmed.
We’ll have to wait until this Friday, then.
