Ishmeet Singh, the youngster from the industrial Punjabi city of Ludhiana who rose to fame by winning the "Voice of India" contest last year, died by drowning in a swimming pool. He was 19.
Ishmeet Singh left Mumbai for the Maldives for a promotional event with his music company this week. Sources say that on Tuesday he drown in the pool of the resort in the city of Male where he was staying.
"Voice of India" is a television show similar to "American Idol" in which normal people with fantastic musical talents perform to an audience of millions of viewers. The viewers then vote for their favorite performer who receives a record contract and instant fame.
Ishmeet Singh was a fan favorite from the beginning of the "Voice of India." He came from humble background, was good looking, good with the camera and could sing very well. The outpouring of support for his family has already started and will probably continue as India hears the news of Ishmeet Singh’s death.
