Israeli authorities granted dozens of “VIP cards” to Palestinian politicians close to Mamoud Abbas, granting greater ease of movement to senior West Bank officials on Thursday.
Palestinian sources told media that dozens of Palestinian Authority (PA) officials will be able to use the cards to move more easily through Israeli military checkpoints in their cars.
The PA’s chief liaison with Israel on civil affairs, Hussein Ash-Sheikh, told media that “all the Palestinian people deserve such cards,” as they face more than 500 military checkpoints throughout the country.
He pledged the PA is doing its best to increase freedom of movement for ordinary civilians.
