Israel has purchased 90 F-16I fighter planes and will obtain 11 more by the end of the year, due to growing fear that Iran will continue its nuclear ambitions. In addition to the F-16Is, 2 Dolphin submarines used to fire nuclear warheads, were purchased to add to the 3 that Israel already has.
Earlier this summer, Israel sparked international debate by practicing air maneuvers in the Mediterranean, which many believe are a "dress rehearsal" for possible future conflict with Iran. The United States has stressed that it will use diplomacy as opposed to military force, which Israel fears in not sufficient in dealing with Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The purchase of the F-16Is are thought to have been a response to U.S. officials imposing a fourth round of sanctions against Iran this week.
