Udhampur/Jammu (India),October 10 (Vijay Kumar) – Director General of J&K Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda said that honest and dedicated officers and jawans would be rewarded suitably for the good work while as those found indulging in human rights violations and other mal practices would be dealt under law. He appreciated the good job jointly done by Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces to check infiltration and conduct of recent successful operations in liquidating top ultras across the State.
DGP was speaking at an inaugural session of one day workshop on “Policing- Reaching out to minorities”, organized by Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), in collaboration with Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi held in the Academy Campus at Udhampur on Saturday.As many as 30 police officers from different ranks from all the regions of the State participated in the day-long deliberations.
Khoda in his inaugural address laid stress on the participating officers about the rights of minorities enshrined in the Constitution of India and other legislations. The police force should create conducive atmosphere so that healthy relations with the public are strengthened and public should have full confidence in the police force, said Khoda. To restore confidence and faith of the people especially the minorities over the functioning of police, the he called upon the functionaries of police to adopt proactive initiatives in reaching out the common masses to strengthen the police-public relations and deliver justice to minorities and other under privileged sections of the society so that their feelings of insecurity are mitigated from their mind set.
He further stressed the need to identify the causes of communal tension, violence by adopting strategies and proactive approach to tackle the situations effectively in their respective jurisdictions.
Terming the workshop of vital importance for the officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police, the DGP hoped that the efforts of the Academy would go long way in devising modalities to built confidence and a sense of security among the minorities. He called for organizing such more workshops and seminars to acquaint the officers and other functionaries of the Department with the various issues which could be more fruitful to make the police people friendly.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Director, Sheri-i-Kashmir Police Academy, Navin Aggerwal gave a detailed account of objectives of the workshop. He apprised that during the workshop among others highly proficient resource persons well versed with the subject including eminent Sociologist from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi. Professor Imtiaz Ahmed and Professor A. S. Narang from School of Social Sciences, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi have been invited to share their valuable experiences and thoughts with the participating officers. The workshop was a noble concept and introduced for the first time in the Academy, he said
Among others, the inaugural session was attended by DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, G. S. Slathia, SSP Udhampur, Surinder Gupta, Assistant Directors, SKPA, Ravinder Singh, Tashi Regzin, Abdul Gani Chowdhery.
