JAMMU, May 13: Notwithstanding the tall claims of both Government of India and state government regarding the return and rehabilitation policy for Kashmiri Pandit migrants with honor and dignity to their native places, the inmates of the Jagti Township are still facing various problems like road, electricity and other facilities which were arranged for them before shifting to Nagrota Township has exposed the claims of both the governments.
The road connected from Nagrota (Kandoli Mandir Chowk) to Jagti Township is in dilapidated condition due to negligence and carelessness of the Road and Building department since the shifting of inmates to Jagti Township. However, the work done on that road look like a nightmare due to which the inmates including school going children of the Township suffer a lot while coming to and fro from the said spot. One of the inmates of Township Ramesh Koul while taking to KTNS said, “Since the shifting of migrants to the migrant township at Jagti Nagrota, a road connecting Nagrota to Jagti colony is in the bad shape. The concerned Department (R&B) is working after it and the officers of the department and contractors having nexus of mitigating the funds meant for the said road. The repair work on this road has been taken several times but is being left undone every time.”
Another inmate S L Bhat said, “At the end of last financial year the repair work was taken in hands by the concerned contractors and the road was dug to be repaired almost all over. The end of finical year has ended the work of this road which was left undone. The passers face lot of problems while walking on this dug out road and even some accidents happen with the two wheels riding on the said road. The funds meant for the repair work is being misused.”
He added, “Earlier, the problems are being faced by people of Jagti Township, Nagrota in particular and KP migrants in general were also discussed with the concerned department under the supervision of community organizations but nothing has been done till date and situation of the dilapidated road remained same after repeating request by the inmates in this context. The state government has always paying deaf ear to the problems being faced by the migrants since the quarters had been allotted to displaced community in the Township as per PM’s Package.”
Lambasting the concerned authorities for adopting such a lackadaisical attitude that too on the issue relating to the problems of inmates, the displaced organizations sought an explanation from the concerned agencies regarding the utilization of funds which were meant for this road and appealed to the Chief Minister and R&B Ministry to take up the issue on priority for the local people who are living in and around the Jagti area who also are facing lots of problems due to dilapidated condition of the road. The inmates also appealed to the state government and concerned department to personally intervene in the matter to mitigate the problem being faced by the displaced community since shifting to the Township.
Despite repeated calls for the last two days regarding some queries about the dilapidated road from the concerned Jammu R&B Chief Engineer Taseen Mustafa who is unable to receive the phone calls due to his busy scheduled or may be to address the problems being faced by the people of the state.
