Jamar Siler, 15, a student at Central High School in Knoxville, Tennessee was arrested and charged in today’s shooting death of fellow student Ryan McDonald, 16.
Witnesses say that Jamar Siler and Ryan McDonald were arguing in the school cafeteria before classes started this morning when Siler shot McDonald once in the chest. The school was put into lockdown and Siler was arrested without resistance as he walked on an area street. Siler was carrying a handgun when apprehended by police.
Jamar Siler appeared in court today where he was charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors have 10 days to decide whether they will try Siler as an adult or a juvenile. He will have a preliminary hearing next Wednesday and begin a trial on September 17.
