Jammu shut down (Bandh) on Monday on Central University issue

 

 

Jammu, August 9,(Vijay Kumar) – Central university Andolan Samiti(CUAS) on Sunday made it clear that Jammu will remain bandh on August 10 in support of the demand of opening of central university in Jammu region.

 

Senior member of the Central university Andolan Samiti and President Jammu Bar Sunil Sethi told reporters in Jammu on Sunday," Central University Andolan samiti has decided to go ahead with its scheduled programme of organising Jammu bandh on August 10 and there would be no change in their stand till a proper notification was issued".

 

He said various organisations including trader organisations, socio, religious organisations student bodies have extended unconditional support to the call of Jammu bandh on August 10.

 

"We are in touch with transporters to support the Jammu bandh call to ensure peaceful Jammu bandh",Sethi said adding that call for Jammu bandh was given to wake up state government from its deep slumber.

 

"We have issued a Jammu bandh call not to score any thing but to raise common voice of the people of Jammu region", he added.

It may mentioned here that after the union government announced that a central university will be established in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government had identified a place close to Samba. for the site of the  Central University.But later, there was a proposal to shift it to the Kashmir Valley, triggering a series of demonstrations here by student groups

Meanwhile, continuing with its agitation different student bodies demanding opening of central university in Jammu region held protest demonstrations and took out a long march from their colleges. Students of women degree college wore black badges during protest demonstration.

Students of various Boys college, Women’s degree college students took out protest marches and shouted slogans against the state government.

Raising a big question mark on the intentions of the state government over the issue of central university several agitated student leaders on Saturday said,” we will continue to agitate on the streets of Jammu till a proper notification is issued by the state government clearing mentioning that a central university campus will come up at Samba in Jammu region and office of the vice-chancellor would be shifted to Samba to supervise construction work of the central university campus”.

To garner support in support of their campaign for the central university several student groups visited various areas of Jammu city to gather support in their favour. On the other hand Panthers party organized several protest demonstrations in Kathua and Jammu. "We will not tolerate injustice over the issue of central university", leaders of the Panthers party said.State BJP Unit has also extended its full support to the call for Jammu bandh over the issue of central university.
