A Japanese Professor, Mr.Yoji Kimura has invented a machine to chart out laughter and a unit of ‘aH’ to calcuate it. He believes laughter in healthy doses can remedy many an ills of the society and capable of even ending world wars.
Children tend to laugh more freely than adults, because of the fact that they are less inhibited whereas adults tend to impose restraints on themselves as a result of which over a period of time they tend to foget how to even laugh. According to him, it is like a restart button on a computer. Laugher plays an important role in the course of human evolution.
Prof.Kimuru who has studied and specialised in laughter for decades in Okasa ( acity in Japan) believes that laughter is the result of four successive emotional stages; (a) letting loose, (b) deviating from the norm, (c) resulting in free laugh and (d) having it overflown. There is something like a circuit which operates in the brain and understanding this mechanism is the door to resolving one secret of human beings, that is resulting in laughter.
Through his machine, he measures laughter, by attaching sensosrs on the skin of the tested subject’s stomach which detects muscle movements. This is because he believes that the laughter gets directly discharged into the diaphragm.
It is also possible to see if a person is pretending to laugh by checking the movements of parts of the body. This process also distinuguishes different types of laughter.
The Professor believes that laughter can bring a shift from a century of war to a century of humor and tolerance and his dream is to make the measuring device as a small as a mobile phone and make it as a health and amusement gadget.
