Jashan-e-Dal,water sports concludes

Srinagar, October 19(Scoop News) –    The Director General of Police, (DGP)  Ashok Prasad has said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has always remained on forefront in polishing the talent of the youth in sports arena and maintained that the Organisation, besides its professional duties, has been carrying out various activities for the development of the youth of the State.

             Prasad was addressing the closing ceremony of Jashan-e-Dal, a water sports festival, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police, at Nehru Park here this evening. The 3-day long festival was held in the world famous Dal lake and was declared open at a colourful function on October 17, 2012. Various aquatic games including Open Kashmir Marathon Shikara Race were the part of the festival.

            The DGP said that Civic Action Programme has been introduced by the Organisation with the aim to provide benefits to the civil society by undertaking different activities. He said that the Organisation is holding various sports festivals, tournaments in different parts including the poor pockets of the State to cultivate talent among the youth in various disciplines. Besides some cultural activities are conducted to provide a platform to the talented artists in the field and refine their talent by providing assistance to excel at higher levels.

          Prasad disclosed that various events were played during the 3-day long Jeshan including water polo, kayak & canoeying, swimming, shikara race, dragon boat race, demb boat race and open marathon shikara race. Various water sports persons and bodies participated in the festival and proved their talent, he added.

             Earlier, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed/Law & Order,  K. Rajendra Kumar, threw light on the activities carried during the 3-day long Jashan-e-Dal. He said that the performance of the participants was adjudged by a designated jury and  prizes decided for distribution among the winners.

            On the occasion,  Prasad distributed th4e prizes among the winners in different disciplines. He congratulated the winners and asked the participants to continue their efforts and earn a good name for the State at national level competitions.

            Among others, the function was attended by ADGP(Headquarters),  S. P. Vaid, IsGP,  S. M. Sahai,  Rauf-ul-Hassan,  A. G. Mir and  Yoginder Koul, DIsGP,  T. Namgiyal,  N. D. Wani and Sheikh Abdul Hamid all Kashmir based Commandants of Armed/IRP Battalions and other serving and retired police officers and large number of sports lovers.
