This Sunday, is the Sunday that all of Christianity recognizes as Palm Sunday. It is the day that Jesus humbly fulfills the prophecy of Zechariah, who was the father of John the Baptist, the last prophet to prophecy the coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ.
ZECHARIAH: 9: 9;
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt, the foal of an ass.”
Jesus being fully aware of the Prophet Zechariah’s prophecy when they were near Jerusalem, sends ahead two of his disciples into a village ahead saying in: MATTHEW: 21:2;
“ Go into the village over against you and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them and bring them unto me.”
MATTHEW: 21: 4-5; and 8-9;
“All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold thy king cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass
“And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees and strawed them in the way. And the multitude that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”
Jesus being the Son of God recalls every prophecy written or spoken about him and knows that they all had to be fulfilled to be true. Jesus further realizes that Zechariah had prophesied exactly how Jesus was to enter Jerusalem on that special day.
