There is also another belief that former Prime Minister Devegowda’s family members, the male ones, do not fare well against their female rivals in elections. True, Mr Devegowda lost his Lok Sabha contest from Kanakapura to a little known candidate at the time, though she was a tv anchor. Mr devegowda’s explanation is that he had no time to campaign thereand lost by default.Banking on this supposed weakness, the Congress has set up women against Kumaraswamy in Ramanagar and HD Revanna in Holenarsipur. Both the candidates are political nonentities. And if they do prevail, superstition would gather more strength.
There is a constituency called Byadgi which is known for its hot chillies.The member who gets elected from there has had no occasion to sit in the opposition benches so far. It would be interesting to see whether the tradition would continue.
