J&K Academy to preserve Gujjar History & Culture

Jammu, December 5 (Scoop News) – Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages has taken into hand three prestigious publication projects  to document the History, Culture and word-hoard used by this tribal community in India.

Dr. Javaid Rahi, Chief Editor and Head of Gojri wing of  Jammu and Kashmir  Academy while giving details, said  we have started  three innovative projects in Gojri language to preserve History and Culture of Gujjars. To preserve History of Gujjars, under one project ,  only this year we have published three books on History includes “Tarekh Shan-e-Gujjar” by Abdul Malik Chouhan, “Gujjar Tareekh o Saqafat”  by  Moulana Abdul Ghani Shashi Azhari and “Jammu Kashmir Ke Gujjar” by Prof. R P Khatana and we are vigorously working on publication of “Mukamal Gujjar Tareekh” by Rana Ali Hussan Chouhan in four volumes.

In order to document the word-hoard of Gojri language ,which is under threat of extinction,  the work  on Gojri-Gojri concise Dictionary ,  under second  project,  is  likely to complete during next month said  Dr. Rahi and added that this project was conceived and designed to give a variety word-hoards  to millions  of  Gujjars and non-Gujjars speakers of Gojri who resides  in  India, Pakistan ,Afghanistan and other parts of the world.

 

He said to widen the access to classic and modern languages ,under third projects which is underway,  dozens of  rare and greatest work of  English, Persian and Sanskrit are chosen to be rendered into Gojri, the third largest spoken language of Jammu and Kashmir .

He said that under this prestigious project some rare classics  have already been published  in Gojri language which include world famous works  like the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi "My Experience with Truth", Mathnavi Moulana Rumi in Four Volumes,  "Gulistan-e-Saddi” Rubiyat-e-Umar Khayam, Karwan-e-Madina , Shakespeare’s Othello and King Lear, Translation of Five plays of Agha Hashar Kashmiri Sanskrit’s  Neelmat Puran .

“we are  also working on the project of  generation of high-quality translation tools such as dictionaries ,translator education; information dissemination; development of scientific and technical terminology in Gojri including promotion of machine translation and machine-aided translation” Dr Rahi said.

 

A Translation journal  in Gojri entitled “Sanjh” was started this year which will enrich Gojri through translations of various subjects, He said.

 

Besides 6 Sheeraza’s , Gojri Look Geet , Gojri Look Kahani, Paneeri, Shingran ka Geet, Gojri ka Lal, Qadawar, Maswdoo, Gujjar aur Gojri this year we have also published “Kuliyat-e-Rana Fazal” in two valumes  , Kalam-e-Zabheh Rajourvi and Safar Mahbtoon ka by Dr. Sabar Afaqi, Dr Rahi said.
