Jammu, November 07 (Scoop News) – Jammu & Kashmir Bharat Scouts and Guides today celebrated Flag-cum- Foundation day here at its Headquarters Gandhi Nagar. More than 300 enthusiastic Scouts and Guides from thirty schools of
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Scouts and Guides a reformatory organization was formed by Sir Lord Baden Powell in 1907 with the aim to serve the humanity with sincerity and promote the abiding of laws for a better world, where people are self-fulfilled and can play a constructive role in the society. He said that scouting forges a spirit of camaraderie among youth and urged upon the youngsters to supplement the efforts of building a peaceful and harmonious society wherein everybody lives with peace, dignity and honour.
Chib stressed upon the youth to extend their help to the needy which in turn will fructify in creating a lasting bonding between the people. He reminded youth about their duties towards the society and said that they have to work to defeat the tendencies of hatred and intolerance which were not in consonance with the high traditions of Indian ethos.
The Minister said that Scouts and Guides inculcate a sense of discipline, duty, national integration, moral values and spirituality among the students. “The students have the ability and vibrancy to give new colours to the social, political and economic profile of the society so they must be nurtured with a right perspective.” He maintained.
Chib said that all human beings are endowed with reason and conscious, which should help in promoting communal harmony and brotherhood which are the need of the hour. He said that such universally acknowledged movements can do wonders in educating the society about the rights and responsibilities. He asked the Scouts and Guides authorities to develop patriotism and respect for human values among the students so that they can contribute their services towards the cause of the society.
The government is working for further strengthening and extending the ambit of the organization, he said, adding that a complex for additional accommodation for the organization would be constructed at Kot Bhalwalfor which the land has already been acquired, the Minister disclosed.
Earlier, the Scouts and Guides, all over the State, approached friends, neighbours, officials, businessmen and citizens and presented them flag day stickers as a token of acclamation as the supporters of this noble movement. The Scouts and Guides also presented cultural programmes highlighting the importance of the day.
On the occasion the Minister, who is also the President of J&K Bharat Scouts and Guides Association, presented “Dr. Sri Ram Memorial Awards” to the best Scout Masters and best Guide Captains of the year. Two well wishers and active supporters of the movement were also honoured.
State Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Nazir Ahmad Khan highlighted the importance of the Flag Day and the steps being taken to popularize the activities and programmes of this noble movement.
Among others, ex-officio Vice- Presidents Director School Education, Jammu G A Qureshi and Director, Youth Services and Sports S. Jaipal Singh State Chief Commissioner, Nazir Ahmad Khan, State Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, M. M Joshi, Wing Commander, Zonal Commissioner, Scouts and Guides and a large number of people were present at the function
