JK BJP condemns intimidation of Press

Jammu, April 1 (Scoop News) -BJP  has taken strong exception to the casual manner in which the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly decided to summon two senior Jammu based  journalists from a  leading English daily to the house for explanation without ascertaining facts.

“This is twin assault on freedom of press as well as parliamentary propriety”, said Chief Spokesperson & National Executive Member Dr. Jitendra Singh in a statement issued in Jammu. He further added that the episode has sent out a very poor message about the functioning of state legislature.

Dr. Jitendra Singh said this is also a reflection of intellectual bankruptcy coupled with arrogance of power which has become a norm with the ruling coalition. He expressed surprise that the Health Minister had raised objections to certain facts stated in his own reply in Legislative Council in response a question by Abdul Gani Vakil. And upon this, the Speaker had betrayed unwarranted hurry to use the opportunity for bullying pressmen.

Dr. Jitendra Singh also referred to complaints in certain quarters about discrimination in issuing of government advertisements to newspapers and the media—politician nexus influencing certain electronic TV channels.

Dr. Singh said that the BJP will expose double standards of governemnt in following policy of appeasement towards anti-India and separatist friendly sections of Kashmir press.

He also alleged that the state as well as the UPA government at the Centre is following a dangerous course in allowing separatist intellectualism and separatist media propaganda to flourish in the name of right to free speech while showing undue enthusiasm to intimidate upright and patriotic sections of media.
