The Minister was speaking at a State level inaugural function organized to observe Wildlife Week 2010 at SKICC today. The aim of the programme was to aware the people about protection amd importance of forests and wildlife. The week is celebrated every year from October 2 to October 8.
Addressing the gathering, Mian Altaf underlined the need for conservation of wildlife and appealed people for putting their efforts in protection of Wildlife. He said that the Government has also adopted innovative measures to contain man-wild animals conflicts.
The Minister said that there are five National Parks, fourteen Sanctuaries and thirty five Conservation Reserves which are being looked after by the department.
Mian Altaf also released a book entitled, “Forest Flora of Kashmir” written by Conservator of Forest, O. P. Sharma.
Among others, Commissioner Secretary, Forests, Shantmanu, Director, State Forests Research Institute, Director, Forests Protection Force, Director, Environment, Director, Social Forestry, Director, Soil Conservation, Managing Director, State Forests Corporation, besides officers of the department and representatives of NGO’s associated with preservation and protection of wildlife and forests were present on the occasion.
