Jammu, July 26 (Scoop News)-It is not expected of the Chief Minister of the State to make “judgemental” statements, giving the impression of being biased or motivated, on as sensitive an issue as the July 18 Gool incident even when the preliminary inquiry points to contrary conclusions and the investigation report submitted to Union Home Ministry yesterday by the Special Director General, BSF, Dilip Trivedi, maintains that BSF,along with the State Police, was compelled to open fire in accordance with the “Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)” laid down for the safety of security personnel and weapons. This was stated here today by BJP National Executive Member & J&K Chief Spokesperson Dr Jitendra Singh while responding to the CM’s statement alleging that BSF had opened fire first causing civilian injuries only after which people gathered in protest.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that as a responsible head of State, the CM should instead direct his colleagues in government and in party to desist from expressing premature opinions or conclusive views which could end up being highly provocative. He appealed to the ruling coalition leaders from both the National Conference as well as Congress to avoid competitive politicking at the cost of security forces because this demoralizes the forces and is fraught with dangerous consequences.
Please don’t forget that deployment of BSF in Gool area was at the request of civilian government and was meant to serve a larger role including safety of the rail track under construction, said Dr Jitendra Singh and regretted the BSF authorities’ desperate decision to withdraw from the area. We cannot expect the security forces to be at our back and call whenever it suits us and at the same time also use them as a “soft target” by denouncing them to seek political mileage,he warned.
Dr Jitendra Singh said,in the wake of reports of regrouping of militants, use of hi-tech warfare and communication methods by them and rising number of security casualities,it is responsibility of all right thinking people, irrespective of political affiliations , to unitedly fight the challenge of foreign sponsored militancy.Citing Intelligence reports,he said there are still 300 to 400 terrorists active in J&K out of whom 60% are foreigners.
Dr Jitendra Singh said the strategy against militancy must be left to professionals without any political intimidation. In a cryptic rejoinder to J&K Chief Minister’s repeated demand for withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from certain areas in the state which incidentally includes Srinagar and other areas served by NH 1A , he said the June 24 terror strike in Hyderpora is a clear vindication of apprehensions expressed against selective revoking of AFSPA from certain areas.
The Chief Minister would do well to take cognisance of the continuation of unprovoked firing incidents on the Line of Control (LoC), repeated attempts at infiltration of terrorists, pumping in of counterfeit currency and drugs and resurgence of foreign sponsored terrorist groups like the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Indian Mujahideen(IM),he added.
