JK CM describes ‘Udaan’ befitting employment initiative

 

 

New Delhi/Jammu,March 26 (Scoop News) –     Describing ‘Udaan’ an important initiative to deal with unemployment of educated youth in the State by enhancing their employability and skill, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Monday assured his government’s fullest support for the success of this programme.

 

Based on the report of Rangarajan Committee constituted by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh to address the unemployment problem in the State, ‘Udaan’ is being implemented by the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) to target 40,000 graduate and post-graduate students of Jammu and Kashmir State in 5 years to enhance their employability and skill by imparting various trainings outside the State ensuring job opportunities in the Corporate sector.

Speaking at the launch of website of ‘Udaan’ by the Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram here, the Chief Minister said that active involvement of corporate sector in the endeavours of the Centre and State Governments, to fill the gap between available educated human resource and the skilled personnel required in the industrial and technological sectors, is of significant importance.

The Chief Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir possesses rich talent pool and the need of the hour is to enhance the skill and employability of the educated youth to make them relevant and capable of receiving jobs in the national job market.

Omar Abdullah said that while various measures have been initiated by the State Government to tackle unemployment crisis, it is the Corporate sector which has to contribute positively and willingly in expanding the employment market of educated youth of the State. He said Rangarajan Report regarding employability of educated youth has been taken well care in the ‘Udaan’ initiative which at one hand provides for enhancing skill and on the other assures job opportunities to youth in corporate sector.

The Chief Minster said that the Centre, the State and the corporate sector have to work in coordination to make ‘Udaan’ a success. He called for a joint and visible involvement of all the three in this regard. He said the signing of MoU between National Skills Development Commission (NSDC) and Corporate Sector is a welcome step aimed at successful implementation of the programme in the State.

Launching the website, the Union Minister for Home, P. Chidambaram said that the ‘Udaan’ initiative implemented by NSDC is based on the Rangarajan Report initiative for skill development and placement of educated youth of Jammu and Kashmir in corporate sector.

The Home Minister expressed the hope that the ‘Udaan’ will yield positive results to provide enhanced job market for the educated youth of the State. He assured fullest Central support in the successful implementation of the programme.

The programmes aims at training of 8000 qualified youth of Jammu and Kashmir outside the State annually in a period of 5 years to enhance their employability in managerial and entrepreneurial skills, financial analysis, HR, marketing, business environment analysis, entrepreneur ventures, career and personal development, software engineering, JAVA programming, hospitality and tourism, real estate, textile and clothing, media and entrainment, CNC-machine operations, automobile services and sales.

A brief presentation on ‘Udaan’ by NSDC was made on the occasion while the signing of MoU between NSDC and Corporate sector also took place.

The function was addressed by Dr. C. Rangarajan while Secretary Home Department delivered welcome address and Joint Secretary (Kashmir) in Home Department presented vote of thanks. The Managing Director and CEO NSDC, various senior Central and State officers, senior representatives of various companies in Corporate sector were present among others on the occasion.
