Srinagar, June 25(Scoop News)-Speaking at a function of release of Postage Stamp in commemoration of Shair-i-Kashmir Mahjoor by Prime Minster, Dr. Manmohan Singh at SKICC here, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah said that Peerzada Ghulam Mohammad Mahjoor symbolized the thought, hope, brotherhood and heartbeats of people of Kashmir.
Omar Abdullah said that Shair-i-Kashmir Mahjoor supported the Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s struggle against the totalitarian system by utilizing his pen in an artistic and poetic medium.
Referring to the great poem ‘Walo Ho Bagwano…’ penned down by Mahjoor, the Chief Minister said that in his this famous poem Mahjoor described the State as the garden and the people as gardners of this great land. “Mahjoor in this poem wanted to drive home to the people the necessity of working together to safeguard the State and seek better and secure future for it”, he said and added that the release of a Postage Stamp by the Postal Department to commemorate the great poet is a welcome decision.
Omar Abdullah said that the best way to pay tributes to Shair-i-Kashmir Mahjoor is that we all join hands to make Jammu and Kashmir beautiful in all fields of life.
The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh who released the Postage Stamp was also accompanied by the UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Governor Jammu and Kashmir, N. N. Vohra, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nazi Azad, Union Minister of State, Dr. Kruparani Killi and J&K Pradesh Congress President, Saif-ud-Din Soz.
On the occasion the artists of the J&K State Cultural Academy presented two famous songs of Mahjoor.
