JK CM Reiterates IT potential in skill development, job creation,urges NASSCOM to look towards J&K

 – Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has again reiterated the potential of Information Technology (IT) sector in offering enormous employment opportunities and has asked NASSCOM and other IT giants to participate in the development of this sector in Jammu and Kashmir. This, he said, will help in skill development of youth and address the issue of their employability.  

            The Chief Minister said this while interacting with a delegation of NASSCOM, led by its Chairman, Dr. Ganesh Natarajan here today.

            The Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Devender Rana, MLA Amira Kadal,. Nasir Aslam Wani, Registrar, University of Kashmir, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad and Director, EMMRC, University of Kashmir, Dr. Shahid Rasool were also present. The NASSCOM delegation included Rajdeep Sahrawat, Mr. Rajesh Gopal, Sanjay Sapru, Ishan Raina, Anjali Raina, Avinash Raghava, Ashok Kaul, Uma Ganesh and Lavanya Jayaram.

Urging the captains of IT and other related sectors to look towards Jammu and Kashmir for setting up their ventures, the Chief Minister said the youth in the State possessed ample talent but there was a need to harness their potential. He said IT is one of the few sectors where physical connectivity was not necessary and this factor could be put to advantage for development of this sector in the State.

            Mr. Abdullah said that J&K has a vast network of educational institutions and promotion of new sectors like IT is necessary to hone the skills of youth and also prepare them for employability in these sectors. He said focused attention, concrete strategies and time-bound action on these plans would go a long way in promoting this sector in the State, adding use of technology could also help in bridging disparity in the educational standards prevalent between rural and urban areas.

            Calling for evolving a multi-tier strategy to achieve the objective of jobs in IT, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to NASSCOM for taking the initiative and asked them to suggest ways and means for development of this sector in the State and also creating job avenues in it for the youth. He said with the improvement in security scenario, the focus should be on development of emerging sectors like IT which have a vast application in day-to-day life.

            Suggesting NASSCOM, which has already worked in various States, to replicate its success stories in J&K, the Chief Minister said this would inspire and encourage youth to go in for IT and related sectors and not hanker after government jobs.

            The Chief Minister was given three powerpoint presentations regarding “IT Sector and its Growth”, “Education and Skill Development Initiative and Employable Skill Development”, “A Case History of Maharashtra” by the Members of the delegation.
