Jammu, January 29- Jammu, January 29 (Scoop News) – J&K Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Saturday reiterated his pledge to expand orbit of job opportunities for Jammu and Kashmir youth. Omar was speaking in the function of handing over placement orders to 273 educated youth selected by 19 private sector companies during the employment fair held here from 14 to 22 January.
“My endeavour would be unabated in this regard”, he said adding that creation of job opportunities for educated, skilled and unskilled young persons of the State in government, private and entrepreneurship sectors is his cherished desire.
“I am here to create opportunities for your career and facilitate in all respects in this direction. But it is up to you to grab the chances and be successful”, he told youth and advised them to change the perception of chasing government jobs alone. “You should come forward to compete for better and lucrative jobs in private sector”, he added.
“There is vast field available to you globally to prove your talent and take advantage of opportunities”, Omar maintained saying that his Government has flagged skills development and employability improvement most important concern. He said many measures have been initiated in this regard and many more are in the pipeline.
Omar told the unemployed youth that after completing his education, he has himself gone through the phase of eagerness and anxiety for job as they are presently confronted with and assured them of his earnest and sincere efforts to create more and more opportunities of jobs for them to grab chances.
The Chief Minister said that Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY) has been initiated by his Government to address unemployment crisis effectively. He said this programme could prove highly beneficial and easy for youth to get themselves properly settled earning livelihood not only for themselves but their many more brethren.
“Government is providing substantial amount of seed money, technical guidance and support to the budding entrepreneurs under SKEWPY. If any unit under SKEWPY God forbid, does not succeed the loss will be of the State and not of the entrepreneur, and if it runs well the profit is of Unit holder”, he said adding that such a mechanism is unique to be taken best advantage of.
The Chief Minister said that his Government has constituted Overseas Employment Corporation to facilitate young boys and girls to get placements in the international job market. In this direction, he said thrust has been given on enhancing employability of educated youth and upgrading their skills to suit job market requirements.
Omar said that the present education system in the State requires necessary reforms to enable passing out youth from educational institutions to be capable of getting jobs in the job market. “For dearth of skilled manpower we are not able to make the Indian Private Sector and National Companies operating in the State to absorb 80 percent local youth in their industrial units. We have to pay attention to this shortcoming and make our workforce worthy of getting easily absorbed in the industries established here”, he emphasized.
The Chief Minister complimented the 19 Private Companies for recruiting the local talent and underscored the importance of organizing many more such employment rallies in the State to help provide opportunities to more and more educated persons. He emphasized for holding such rallies in the Valley too.
Omar Abdullah said that State is rich in talent pool adding that the only effort required is to mould youth rightly to be capable of getting employment in the open job market. In this connection, he referred the Skills Development Mission being carried on by the State at present aiming at imparting training to 16,000 youth during the two years period in different trades in various Polytechnic and ITI Institutions in the Country.
The Chief Minister said that 18 new Polytechnic Institutes and one ITI in each Block in the State are being established to provide necessary training base for the youth in the State itself.
The Chief Minister later flagged off a batch of 180 boys and girls for training under Skills Development Mission at various Institutions outside the State.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Technical Education, R.S. Chib listed programmes and plans of the Technical Education Department to increase employability and skills in young persons. He said the Department has this year arranged placements of over 700 educated youth in private sector and hundreds of such jobs are in the pipeline.
He said schedule for organizing more and more employment rallies in the State has been drawn and efforts are on to involve
Chib said that 1000 youth are presently getting training at various Institutes outside the State while 445 have completed their trainings and 125 have been absorbed in the job market.
The function attended by the representatives of 19 private Companies, selected youth, officers and prominent citizens, was also addressed by the Commissioner Secretary Technical Education, Bashir Ahmad Runyal and Director, Technical Education, Ajeet Sahu while Advisors to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul and Devender Singh Rana were present on the occasion.
