Srinagar, October 05 (Scoop News) – J&K Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today reviewed the progress on the decisions taken in the last meeting chaired by him to fine tune the arrangements for the smooth conduct of fruit trans-shipment from the Valley to the terminal markets.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Horticulture, Sham Lal Sharma, the Minister for Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, the Minister of State for Horticulture, Javid Ahmad Dar, Advisors to the Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul and Devender Singh Rana, the Chief Secretary, S. S. Kapur, Principal Secretary Agriculture, Iqbal Khandey, Secretary Transport, Pradeep Gupta and other senior officers.
Underlying the importance of fruit industry in the economy of the State, the Chief Minister directed the concerned departments to take every measure for facilitating smooth transshipment of fruit from the Valley to the markets outside the State. “Besides deploying adequate trucks for the purpose, the railway facility should also be utilized in this regard”, he said.
Omar Abdullah took the brief of each decision taken in the last meeting and stressed on facilitating the export of fruit in every respect to avoid any inconvenience to the fruit-growers and the traders associated with this industry.
The Minister for Horticulture and the Minister for Transport briefed the Chief Minister of the measures initiated and action taken on the decisions to ensure smooth dispatch of fruit from the Valley.
Giving details of the implementation of the decisions taken in the last meeting, the Principal Secretary Agriculture said that all the decisions have been implemented and measures accordingly put in place to facilitate hassle-free export of horticulture produce from the Valley.
The meeting was told that the fruit crop in the Valley this year has been bumper and, as such, export is expected to be of the higher order. It was stated that the transport and horticulture departments are working in close coordination to facilitate transportation of fruit from the Valley to the markets outside the State.
