Observing that Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi were fully aware of the requirements of J&K for faster development and economic growth, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the support of NC to UPA is wholehearted and unconditional.
Mr. Abdullah was speaking during a press conference in Srinagar on Monday during which Ghulam Hassan Khan, newly-elected MP from Leh Parliamentary constituency joined NC.
The Chief Minister said he did not believe in bargaining or demanding anything in lieu of the support and added that NC has always followed the path of principle-based politics and we will continue to uphold the same. “We are not asking for anything for supporting UPA. It is not for us to demand a pound of flesh. Our support is and will be unconditional. We have played our part in ensuring victory of NC-Congress coalition candidates and it is now up to UPA to play their part for the welfare of J&K”, he said.
In reply to question, Mr. Abdullah said Ghulam Hassan Khan, who joined NC, has the approval of Congress high command, adding that before making any contact with Mr. Khan, the Congress high command was taken on board.
In reply to another question, the Chief Minister said there was no underhand deal whatsoever in the fighting of elections by the rebel NC candidate, Ghulam Hassan Khan from Ladakh Parliamentary constituency. “We sincerely campaigned for NC-Congress coalition candidate and appealed to the voters to support him but the wisdom of voters was different and they returned Mr. Khan who today joined NC without any condition or bargain”, he said and added that from the day Mr. Khan decided to fight elections till today, we had no contact with him.
