Srinagar, October 18 (Scoop News) – Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Tuesday called for creation of investment and industrial friendly environment in the State to give considerable fillip to the industrialization and generation of wide-ranging economic activities.
“This is essential element in creating employment opportunities for youth and putting the State’s economy on strong edifice”, he said adding that the State Government would extent full support to the investors in this regard.
The Chief Minister was taking brief on single window system for clearance of industrial units in the State made by the consultant company KPMG under an initiative of Jammu and Kashmir Chapter of CII here at a high level meeting.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Industries, S. S. Salathia, Minister of State for Cooperation, Dr. Manohar Lal, Administrative Secretaries of various departments, other senior officers and representatives of CII.
The Chief Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir lags behind in the development of industry and creation of feasible and profitable industrial environment in the State. He said that the investment planet of the State needs to be updated making it comprehensive and inconsonance with the State’s potential and feasibility in different industrial sectors.
Omar Abdullah asked the Industries Department and CII to identify various industrial disciplines and focus on their all round development adding that feasibility of an industry is must for its sustenance in a particular area.
The Chief Minister said that the suggestions given by KPMG in its PowerPoint presentation about the new version of single window system should be studied in detail and joint strategy drawn to address various issues for creating level field for the investors to venture upon. He asked the local industrialists to be pro-active in utilizing the concessions available for launch of industries in the State.
Omar Abdullah expressed happiness over the fact that the younger generation in the State is emerging on the spectrum of industrial investment and said that this positive sign needs to be nurtured for the larger interests of the State.
The Minister for Industries informed the meeting that single window system for clearance of industrial units is already working in the State and the suggestions given by KPMG would be factored in its improvement and upgradation.
The Minister of State for Cooperatives in his speech talked about the providing employment to the locals in the industrial units and said that this aspect needs to be given due consideration.
The representatives of CII gave brief account of their experience in running the industrial units in the State and assured that they would further expand their activities.
