Jammu, August 11 (Scoop News)-JK Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah arrived here this afternoon to take stock of the prevailing law and order situation in Jammu and other areas which witnessed tension after the clashes between two groups.
The Chief Minister in a high level meeting was briefed by the Home Department and the Divisional Administration about the status of law and order in Jammu Division particularly in Kishtwar, Reasi, Rajouri and parts of Jammu where clashes between the two groups of the society made the Administration to call in Army to the assistance of civil Administration for maintenance of peace and restoration of tranquillity.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Ministers, Abdul Rahim Rather, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Taj Mohi-ud-
Din, Peerzada Mohammad Sayed, Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Ajay Sadhotra, Mir Saifullah, Ministers of State, Shabir Ahmad Khan, Ajaz Ahmad Khan, Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo, Dr. Manohar Lal, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Principal Secretary Home, Director General Police, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and IGP Jammu.
The Chief Minister while giving directions to the Administration for keeping constant vigil over the situation and defusing tension in the affected areas by restoration of calm and peace, made fervent appeal to the people for exhibiting their responsibility towards the State and its people, and help the Administration in restoring order.
Omar Abdullah said that Government has called in the Army help to assist the civil Administration in restoring law and order and expediting the process of restoring normalcy. He directed the Administration to be on high alert so as to foil all attempts of those elements who want to vitiate the atmosphere to sever their own vested interests.
The Chief Minster expressed the hope that people will not fall prey to the designs of rumour mongers and vested interests and exhibit their tradition and trait of communal harmony, brotherhood, tolerance and amity that has been the characteristic of the people of State for ages.
Omar said that Jammu and Kashmir symbolizes pluralistic ethos and peaceful co-existence of different faiths, cultures and ethnic groups. He said all sections of the society have nurtured this trait and withstood onslaughts on State’s secular democratic characteristic. He hoped that people will once again rise to the occasion and unitedily foil the designs of the forces who want to wedge the society in the name of religion.
