Participating on the brief discussion on the issue in the House today, he said the government should have, however, informed the House about the conduct of polls as per the precedence and traditions of parliamentary democracy rather than making the poll schedule public outside. It was not expedient that the legislators will come to know about Panchayat polls through newspapers, he said.
Criticizing the government for delaying to bring Bills for Panchayat Election and Finance Commissions in line with 73rd amendment, he said the government could have promulgated ordinance prior to summoning the session to put these institutions in place had it been really serious to conduct these polls as per the spirit of 73rd amendment.
The announcement is nonetheless a step in right direction as the mover would empower the people at grass route level and strengthen democracy.
