Jammu, April 14 (Scoop News) – “Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar will not only be remembered as a person who has documented the constitution of our country, which is one of the best constitution of the world, but he is also remembered as a revolutionary, as a scholar, as an intellectual and the person who strongly fought against communalism and castism”, Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, said while addressing an unprecedented and historical function, organized by Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Educational Society in collaboration with Gandhi Global Family at Bari-Brahamna, here today to mark the 119th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedhar .
The function was attended by a galaxy of intellectuals, writers, scholars, educationists, prominent citizens, youth and people belonging to all walks of life.
The Deputy Chief Minister was the chief guest at the function. Arvind Kumar and Hari Chand welcomed the Chief Guest. The Congress General Secretary Vinod Kumar Sharma was also present on the occasion.
Tara Chand, while laying foundation stone of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Community Bhawan, to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore, for which the Deputy Chief Minister made on the spot announcement for release of Rs. 20 lakhs to start the construction, said that the present Coalition Government, under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has not only continued chain of mega developmental works, which were initiated by the former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, but further opened new chapters of progress during its last 16 months in the office. He said that two Central Universities, 22 Polytechnic Colleges, expenditure of thousands of crores on construction of flyovers, roads and tunnels, establishment of various power generating units, work on PHE schemes and other developmental scenario bears the witness that our State is swiftly marching to become the model State of the country.
Tara Chan, expressed thanks to UPA Chairperson, s. Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for smooth passage of Inter District Recruitment Bill which has received allround appreciation and rights of Schedule Castes were also protected under the provisions of the Bill, as a result of which entire Dalit Class was fully satisfied.
Tara Chand expressed his happiness to observe that for the first time on birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar such unprecedented gathering assembled in Bari-Brahamna which was fully being attended by writers, scholars, educationists, prominent citizens, administrators and persons belonging to all walks of life. He said like Mahatama Gandhi, Pandit. Jawaharlal Nehru and other sons of the soil, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar also belongs to all and on this day it is duty of all citizens of our country to remember such a great soul who has strengthened the pillars of secularism and succeeded to defeat the ugly forces of hatred, bias, bigotry, Communalism and Castism. He said those who divide human beings on one pretext or the other are biggest enemies of humanity and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar has taught all of us to unite against such forces and propagate the concept of communal harmony.
On the occasion, for the first time people’s convocation was organized jointly by Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Educational Society in association with Gandhi Global Family and in which prestigious Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar awards-2009 were bestowed upon various outstanding personalities for their contribution in different fields.
The selection committee headed by Arvind Kumar and Capt. Harichand of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Educational Society, Bari-Brahamna and S. P. Verma of Gandhi Global Family announced the names of those who were selected for these prestigious awards. All awardees were honoured and taken in a shape of procession on a well decorated stage through Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand who was the Chief Guest.
