Jammu, December 15 (Scoop News) –J&K State teams both boys and Girls emerged over all winners in 58th National School Games Tennis Ball Cricket U-19 which concluded at M A Stadium today.
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib was the Chief Guest, while as Secretary General; School Games Federation of India was the Guest of Honor on the occasion.
The 5-day event was organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports under the aegis of School Games Federation of India. As many as 25 teams comprising 290 players and 40 supporting staff from 13 states including host state participated. In all, 43 matches were played both in boys and girls category.
In the final of girls’ category, J&K beat Gujrat team by 7 wickets while as Chhatishgarh team captured 3rd position in the championship.
In boys’ category, the J&K team thrashed Madhya Pradesh team by 16 runs and Jharkhand won 3rd place.
Chib expressed gratitude to National School Games Federation of India for organizing the event in the state, adding that it has provided proper representation to the state. He said that the state government will welcome School Games Federation of India for organizing the events in future also.
The Minister said that the present government has been organizing national and state levels events in every sport in the state. He said the state has ample sports potential and focus attention is being paid to encourage the enthuastic players. He said that the state has Sports Council headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Directorate of Youth Services and Sports which are working for channelizing the energy of youth and using it constructively.
The Minister complimented the winning, runner-up and participating teams. He directed Director, Youth Services and Sports for provision of special incentives to the winning team of the state for their encouragement.
Later, the Minister gave away trophies and medals among winner and runner-up teams.
Earlier, Chib honoured Bhanu Pratap Singh who won a gold medal and was also adjudged best player in the Asian Kurash Championship held at Kochi recently.
Among others, Secretary General, National School Games Federation of India R K Mishra, Director Youth Services and Sports S. Jaipal Singh, Director, Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof. Dhian Singh Bhau, Padam Shree S P Verma, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Madan Lal, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports and Vice- President National School Games Federation of India Ashok Kumar, President, J&K Foot Ball Association and large number of sports lovers were present.
