Under centrally sponsored National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) J&K has been enlisted in the 18 high focused States of the country. The State has received Rs. 211 crore under the project, of which Rs. 71 crore have been booked by March this year.
Under the mission the existing ANMP schools at Srinagar and Jammu are being upgraded to the level of Nursing Colleges. Under the Mission, 19 District Health Societies, 477 Rogi Kalyan Samitis, 6745 village Health and Sanitation Centers and 48 Programme Managements Support Units have been set up across the State. For linking communities with health care system nearly 10,000 ASHA workers have been engaged one each for a population of 1000 souls in the state. They have been provided with the honorarium of Rs. 2.60 crore.
Under the Mission 25 programme officers have been imparted training in NRHM while as 44 ANMS have been trained in specialized skill. Besides, 14 districts hospitals and 8 Sub District Hospitals are being upgraded for which Rs. 20 crore have been released.
For active implementation of the programme, 85 Primary Health Centres (PHC) have been made functional for 24 hours service and 24 Community Health Centres (CHC) upgraded to Indian Public Health standard. More 45 CHCs are being upgraded soon.
