The team briefed Michelle Obama about the idea of Eco Binding. She was also presented with the first EcoBinder notebook and a detail about the project. Impressed with the students’ project, the first lady advised the students to take their idea to the global level. She asked the team to keep her posted regularly on the progress on the implementation of the project. The name of the contact person has been given to the University Vice Chancellor. The project reminded her of her early days when she was involved with social work and had worked on many social issues. Eco binding was the winning idea mooted by the students of Sydenham Institute of Management Studies and Research and Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE), where students are encouraged to find ways to reduce the felling of trees and wastage of paper. The idea revolves around the assumption that every student uses a notebook and, after every semester, each notebook has unused pages which normally gets wasted. The proposal is to donate these blank pages to a centralised group. This idea among others is under consideration for implementation by a university-appointed committee.
